With Three French Hens in the bag itâs of to Lancashire to face Stanley at the Crown, thatâs the football ground not the pub, with our target of reaching 50 points getting very close (will we get there before the New Year) a single point will guarantee the top of the league spot for Christmas. With Gary Doherty announcing his retirement we should have a fully fit squad with only Hogan Ephraim a doubt with a back problem. Stanley go into the game with the disappointment of loosing out on a bumper pay day a home FA Cup game against Manchester United when they lost their 2nd round replay against Yeovil on Tuesday night so lets hope the disappointment and tried legs will mean they are not up for the fight and before Christmas Day we amass Six Geese A Laying
Stanley have certainly done some traveling away at Pompey & Yeovil might be a good time to play them even though the results look like which Stanley team turn up they are usually close games but our away form should see us ok
Should be goals in this game with Accrington having score 31 goals so far and Wycombe 35. Accrington have let in 30 so i'm optimistic we'll win 2-1 or 3-2.
Only 5 teams have averaged more than 2 goals a game: Bristol City Swansea Chelsea Man C Wycombe That is pretty impressive. Not sure if we can keep that up much longer. A draw would be acceptable but that just moves us out of that category
Over the last 6 home games Accrington have averaged 2 points per game (as opposed to our 1.83) but our average over the last 6 away games is 2.17 points per game. I doubt they will score more than 2 goals against our defence so it's up to our strikers to bang in at least 3 for max points. Has the makings of an entertaining game, which probably means it will be a boring non event
So whatever happens today we'll be top Of League to for christmas after Burton drew last night, 2 games in hand a much better goal difference and a point above them. On the first day of the season who thought we'd be where we are? Not me! 2 tough games after Accy Luton and Shresbury which will show how good we are right now (I hoope )
Could be a League defining period. I don't expect to beat Luton or Shrews but what a celebration it will be if we do. What is the most number of points we have got in League football over the 3 Christmas/New Year matches? I don't recall collecting all 9 points.
Ainsworth hasn't gone today as he's not well so Dobbo is in charge for this game. Same starting XI as the Southend game plus Holloway is on the bench.
A goal in 4 consecutive gamews has proved Plymouyh fans wrong as they didn't rate him at all saying he had an attitude problem.
I suspect 28/12/14 may be a turning point. a point each may be helpful. just hope we have a lucky linesman who has been to specsavers this time.
