Right now on BBC1 - The Big Questions

I can't believe that so many anti-monarchs, so many negative opinions, and these 'so many people' are either Scotish or non white (I'm not a racist).

    Jeeeeze man !!!!!

The BBC are so politically correct that they always give loads of air space to those with minority views - turn it over to C4 and watch Sunday Brunch would be my suggestion. Then later today or perhaps tomorrow go out and enjoy the street parties!

I am a male, heterosexual, middle class, white, family man, over 40 and employed. I passionately love my country and proudly fly the Union Flag and the St George Cross. I have descended from generations of likewise people.

I despise the monarchy and everything it stands for too. I am also staunch Republican. Are my views any less valid because I am not a minority?

Its called freedom of speech. Something a monarchist will find difficult to comprehend I guess, as they would rather be ruled buy an accident of birth rather than a democratically elected Head of State.

Cest - I am a republican/monarchist aetheist. We are effectively ruled by an elected government with the monarchy's powers being ceremonial rather than real these days and that suits me fine. I think that some of the peripheral royals like Andrew and Edward should have a proper job and stop pretending that they are in some way ambassodors, but I don't have any problems with the likes of William and Harry.

That's my opinion and it won't accord with everyone else, such as your good self. Your opinion is just as valid as mine.

My comment to Rackem though is that if it is winding him up so much, watch Sunday Brunch instead.

Just so that you know, although I don't really give a monkey's either way I will be going to our village jubilee party today, primarily to meet my mates, have a few beers and have a good time - that may make me hypercritical but that is how it is.

Whatever you choose to do this weekend Cest, I hope that you have a good one.

Try going to France this weekend, they are going crazy over the queen as I have been reliably informed by my friends over there

My rant was based on the so called hand-picked audience for this BBC programe.

I am in favour of an open live tv forum of debate, however, this was without doubt, in my opinion, an uneven-handed discusion, whatever you personal stance on our monarchy is.

Personally, I am proud of our Monarchy and I'm certainly not embarrased to say I love all the pomp and cerimony too, toether with everythimg that goes with it, including the Union Flag and the St George Cross. That said, I have no beef with those who are against it either, simply because, I, like you Cest, believe in freedom of speech and democracy.

.....the point I was trying to put across, was that although the programe was broadcast in Glasgow, the cross section of the audience and it's opinions, were grossly unbalanced, which was very surprising for the BBC, whether in Scotland or anywhere else for that matter.

    ...........Rant over !
