I am not one to place a bet midweek normally and normally stick to a Saturday (Cheltenham and Aintree festivals excluded!)... but one I can not ignore tomorrow is King of Jazz in the 3.40pm at Yarmouth. I backed him last time out at Doncaster and he ran an eye catching race, had poor luck in running that day too and jockey not overly hard on him although he would have been a hell of a lot closer had he been a little more aggressive.

He 's ran in some good races this fella and a drop in class will help. He also looks in good form to me and Im expecting a big run. Bet just placed at 5/1 e/w GP.

I am not convinced about this horse Captain, I think he clearly has ability and I imagine a great worker as he has run in some really good races and been backed on occasion, but he some how always seems to flatter to deceive. I am not sure he is a racer and that he will happily gallop along but has no will to get to the front when asked and is happier behind horses. I agree with SMP in that Khubala or even Galacian may be a safer bet. I think King of Jazz may have been with Hannon at one point and I would have said Richard Hughes was his ideal jockey, but not even he could get him winning, for a horse of his undoubted ability he should have won more than one race by now. Good luck anyhow <ok>

I agree with the reservations about King of Jazz (very understandable as this horse is clearly difficult to win with). However I also feel that, if he is going to win, then this is his race and 5/1 (still available) for me makes him a nailed on ew shot.

Moring, troops. I ask the same question this morning as I asked yesterday. Why, oh why, do we need 5 meetings again today?!?

Quite like the action at Worcester though who seem to have an above average card for a meeting so early into the fledgling NH term. The former 162 rated hurdler Brampour looks intriguing on his fencing bow (6.15), the horse the Pipe’s named after me is most interesting on his introduction to handicapping (7.45), especially off a modest perch of 119, but as I said yesterday the one that I’m drawn to most is in the ‘lucky last’ at the fixture – Military Precision (8.15). Although the latter has form figures of 67/5998- and is rated just 89 I think he’s far better than this and that his roguish connections are up to something with this one. Current quotes of 12/1 look more than fair and would I expect reward each-way support. Military Precision off such a low base rating really to my eye, in fact, looks the sort that could go on to run up a sequence. Let’s hope that Daddy Martin has opened the ‘magic fridge’ and decided that the horses long unbeaten run commences this evening.

Good luck all.

Couldn't agree more Barney, why we ever need more than 3 in midweek is beyond me.

I think there is a value bet to be had this afternoon however.

Lingfield
4.30 Mesilla Star 7-1

This horse was entered in a hot maiden at the Craven meeting, when you consider the horses that Noseda is likely to have, that he chose this one to contest that must indicate it has shown something at least worth making the eyes open a little wider on a cold morning on the gallops. I am not suggesting he is going to be a superstar of the future but a Lingfield Maiden could be well within his grasp and at 7-1 worth a bet. William Buick passes up Yarmouth to come to Lingfield for two mounts and I think it's this one.

Exeter 7.35 Dancing Emily 5/1

Fairly decent bumper horse who won well on debut. The third that day, Bahira, won her next two bumpers and was already a winner coming into the race. The second that day, Maid of Silk, had run well in bumpers coming into the race as well. The 4th came second in her maiden hurdle and won the one after. This all goes to back up the theory this horse is a fairly decent animal.

Her next bumper was a hot contest with Top of the Range winning and the Listed bumper winning Curtis horse, One Term, second. Victor Leudorum is a 131 rated hurdler now and was third whilst the selection was a close 4th with just 4 lengths separating 1st and 4th and a massive gap to the rest. Dancing Emily was giving all of the horses in front if her 5lbs that day.

The yard obviously think something of her because they threw her in at the deep end again on her hurdling debut at Newbury with Broadbackbob, Ballygarvey, Carrigmorna King to name just three 130+ rated horses in the field. She was pulled up that day and wasn't seen again for 18 months so I think it's safe to assume she picked up an injury during that outing and didn't show her best.

She reappeared 19 days ago and ran a race full of promise when it's safe to say she probably wasn't 100% fit. A steady 2nd behind the useful Mickie is proof positive that the horse is over her problems and today would look a great opportunity to turn that promise into victory.

5/1 is a hell of a price with the only concern being the dreaded bounce factor. Taradrewe could be decent enough but the selections form is better than hers and the fav fell the other day so it seems like taking her on is the obvious play.

Galician for me in that 7f Yarmouth Handicap. Her three wins all came over 6f, but she's been staying on over 7f so the trip won't be a problem. Having run well at Ponte, an in form filly trained by Scotland's finest Yorkshireman is not to be missed.

Afternoon chaps

Captain, you will be dismayed to hear that my money is also on King of Jazz. I put him in my tracker after his last run, for a one-time bet, so I'm obliged to back him!

Afternoon all. Backed Story wirter in the 3-50 at bath today and got 11/2. It's now 14s. Apart from the obvious answer "Dan Starkey backed it" has anyone got any ideas as to why it has drifted so badly?

I fully expect Mubtadi to go in again and 9/4 is definitely a fair price to do so. Won comfortably on his last start (despite Thomas Brown scaring the **** out of everyone) and there is no doubt in my mind that he is still on a good mark. Brown and connections have stated that he should be even better on turf and although I believe their comments to be true this is clearly a different kettle of fish from the All Weather races he has been winning. I lumped on him for his last win but am slightly scaling down my bet given the different proposition he faces today. Now 16lb higher than when his winning run started, he is still 8lb below a mark he was beaten a head off in a Class 2 handicap on the turf and given that I feel he is a better horse now than he was back then since subsequently gelded I am confident he can land this 5 timer and keep in tact the perfect record he and the excellent Thomas Brown possess.
