A few I like the look of today which I'll try to get write ups done for but a few quick notes for now 3.00 Catterick North Central 11/2 North Central won over C+D back in June winning quite nicely by 1.5L. After this North Central, again at this track over 7f, he finished a decent 2nd to Hot Rod Mamma who has gone on to complete a hat trick since. Only 2lb higher than that run and at what seems to be his best track he must surely have a great chance. Galpin Junior has been in my tracker for ages and I may have a small play on the RFC as he is potentially very well weighted 6.40 Roscommon Capal Dubh Alainn 40/1 + Realta Rathcabhain 25/1 Capal Dubh Alainn won in testing conditions over 2m 6f back in January last year off a mark of 95 at Thurles by 18L. Hasn't been at his best since but is very lightly race with 3 starts since over hurdles and a recent outing on the flat - potentially to get him fit for this. He has slowly fallen back to a mark of 104. With a 7lb claimer on board, who was on board for his win and this is the first time he rides him since, he effectively races off a mark of 97 and if he is back to the form shown last year he could make a mockery of these odds. A bit of money around already and a small bet for me. Realta Rathcabain is stepped up to 3m for the first time tomorrow and I think that will suit him. Put in decent efforts his last twice and if improving could have a very good chance. 7.30 Southwell Daaweitza 12/1 Daaweitza is a C+D winner who hasn't really been at his best recently for Brian Ellison's yard. However, he is now 7lb lower than winning at Pontefract last year and 2lb higher than here and with the eye catching booking of Silvestre De Souza I am hoping for a good run at a nice price
Off to Bath for my birthday today, will be good to see the old boy run. Have a good day one and all. Any strong views for Bath?
Hello, people. Bit disappointed this morn as I was going to tip Dark Energy big time in the 17 furlong handicap at Bath but sadly this one is now a non-runner. Thought he looked very well in off just 52, on his return to the flat, given how well he has been running over hurdles of late. Still am hiding my disappointment stoically and will suggest that my regular readers now do the same. Consequently, ‘no bet’ for me now today. Nass, happy birthday old boy and how nice of Bath to put on a fixture to celebrate said fact. They aren’t doing the same unfortunately when it’s my birthday later in the month. You must have friends in high places up that hill. Bit strange incidentally that there are 3 ‘fillies only’ heats at Bath today. I think the ‘lucky last’ there today looks a corker and although the romantic and sentimental money may be for The Tatling the top one looks very interesting, brought back so soon, after a facile win last week. In the 4.15 I see old boy Channon introduces a newcomer (has been supported this morn) in the same race that he introduced Music Show back in ’09. Although Tinzapeas is perhaps not the nicest ever name for a filly. As I said I won’t be wagering but I suppose if I had to nominate 1 it would be Nick Williams’ Orbital Orchid in Dark Energy’s absence. Always a trainer to respect she is a rare flat runner for him and has solid form to her name. Good luck to those who do trade today though.
Many Happy Returns Nass lad Have a of a day and hope you get a winner or 2 After yesterdays excellent results not sure i should be trying for more today but i shall have a look at what Bath has on offer mate
O'meras horses seem to be hitting some good form so interested in a couple of his at Catterick today. Also SDS could have another good day..... Ruth Carr sends one, Galpin Junior.
Birthday Boy: Best bet on the card without doubt must be: 245: Laverre, will love the ground and as CD winner should go very well
Lady Heartbeat 40/1 on debut at Chester. Very slowly away and very green, soon detached and ridden, stayed on well final furlong, going on closing stages but never a threat (op 28-1). Pity there are only 5 runners as I fancied this ew at 20/1 forecast but it's now best priced 13/2 so a bit risky for the win.
A couple have caught the eye again today, will see if the 'luck' is still in 245B: Laverre being a CD winner in fast ground should go well. 620S: Jo Hughes has made a nice start to her training career even if her partner is doing the training They have a very capable apprentice (7lbs) in Josh Baudins who today takes the ride on Beachwood Bay. If the money comes then this will go very well indeed. Last night the lad gave Pats Legacy a superb ride and was only just pipped by Jim Crowley on Uncle Fred (some of us shrewdies got the FC) . For me the best bet of the day however comes in the 815 Ffos Las. In what looks a tricky affair between horses somewhat on the decline 'Frank' teams up with an in form David Simcock with Beyond Limits who was competing at the top level not too long ago. At 12s this looks a very nice EW bet given this is by far his easiest assignment in many a day. Best of British all who play
After that one from WL all seems a bit tame.....anyway...... Happy Birthday, Nass! (Will start working on a winner at Bath for you............).
Nassau: Take a look at Viviani in the 4:45. Although 9-7 is a lot to lug around over the marathon trip, this top-weight could go close? Have a successful day at the races!
Morning all. Just one today - Tombellini 3-00 Catterick. Nice to see the England team winning again but it was a real shame that the Indians chose to upstage their hosts with a cynical and calculating display of sportsmanship desigened to grab the headlines and the moral high ground. I wish they'd upheld the decision to give Bell out and left everyone to get on with it really.
6.55 Southwell Clodhopper 14/1 1 more for me today in the form of this Jamie Osbourne 2 y-o who appears to be the stables second string behind Russian Bullet. However, I have a feeling that this one may still have an excellent chance. Ran far too green on debut and Hayley Turner is an eye catching booking taking over from Sophie Doyle. Its pretty annoying theres only 7 runners in what will be this filly's AW debut but I think shes definitely worth a few quid at 14s. Happy birthday Nass
Todays NAP is 4.00 Catterick Andrasta go with rest of win lucky 15 5.15 Bath The Tatling 8.15 Ffos Las Bathwick Bear 8.35 Southwell Amtired
Happy Birthday Nass. Not very original but I like Beauty Pageant in the 3.45.The 4lb rise from her narrow defeat LTO is partially negated by the excellent Seany Levey's claim. Have a great day
200Catt: Dorry K ran a very green race on debut and this extra furlong will help, nice EW proposition who could just about win this.
Many felicitations on your birthday young Mr NassauBoard. As it's your birthday, maybe you are wearing your birthday suit and so Nude (4.15) may be a suitable selection. best of luck and have a cracking day.
As the deposed King of Catterick, I suppose it's incumbent upon me, (in the absence of King Nass) to get among 'em. I thought I'd kick things off with a 100-1 chance. In the 14:00, Villa Reigns was unconvinced last time out. He only battled to the wire, but this is a weak old affair, so at the price I thought he was value to maybe fill a place. Villa Reigns EW 14:00 Catterick. 100-1. Happy birthday Nass.
