Not a lot to go on form-wise in the Huntingdon bumper but on breeding I like the look of Brian Ellison's Scottsdale (nice name too because it is a rather nice suburb of Phoenix). This son of Cape Cross is a half-brother to Critical Acclaim, who won over 12 furlongs on debut for John Gosden back in 2008. Ellison has a 20% strike rate in bumpers over the last 5 years and there has been early money for Scotsdale this evening, already backed in from 8/1 to 4/1.
DEMOGRAPHIC 7/1 Huntingdon 3.20 Looks reasonably treated and doesn't have a huge amount of miles on the clock. Darryl Jacob has a tidy enough record for the yard and I expect this one to go well.
It's an interesting little race odddy with Ellison having his first bumper runner at Huntingdon. His overall ratio at the course is pretty poor though. When they back one of their bumper runners they usually win. Interesting money for outsider Spice Girl too from Martin Keighleys yard, they know the time of day and she too is well bred. Throw into the mix runners from George Baker and Harry Whittington and we are still yet to mention the favourite! Gun to my head I would be on GUIDING STARS.
I'm sure no one would want to hold a gun to your head old boy, what? Definitely some nice types in the race, also Sweeping Beauty has some fancy relations on the dam side and Harry Cobden takes off a useful 3lbs
you both forgot Palmers runner Fabritius trainer is 1/1 in bumpers and is very nicely bred- is surely the quickest horse in the race being by Dutch Art and the Dam is pretty well related too;
2.10 SEDGEFIELD- LE BREUIL- 5/4 Someone mistake me if I am wrong but are these Paulings first runners at SEDGEFIELD? A horse from my tracker so had to put it up plus Will go off a shade of odds on IMO, won very impressively on his first bunper than ran ok a month ago probably needed the run for this . Trainer likes him a lot and could be more at home In this sphere! Will be hard to beat
don cantillon has a interesting runner in the bumper at lingfield- Elegant 7/1 - if it moves in the market inwards expect it to run , if it drifts probably be withdrawn ..... such is the way with this yard iirc .... they don't like to waste their ammo ......
All Set To Go 2.20 Huntington 5/2 Looks to be a class above these and should come on alot for his last run. Fool To Cry 3.10 Sedgefield 11/10 Won a couple of juvenile races and should follow up in a pretty poor race. She gets a stone off for being a three year old.
I'm intrigued by the possibility of a Skelton/Andrews double in the last 2 races at Sedgefield. 3.10 The Last Bar 3.45 Theatrebar The latter has not been seen for 2 years, has not been over hurdles for 2.5 years and makes a debut for Skelton, yet is top of the market! What do they know? I may have a play on that, we'll see ..
UK mainland Class 4 all-aged h/caps with no jockey restrictions and 8-11 runners. I've been targeting these races for a month or two with considerable success. I go for the most valuable one of the day. There were three to look at this morning and the Sedge 1.35 is the target race. I rate the entire field according to a couple of criteria then highlight the top three. I have a method to tie-breaking too. So..I note the prices on offer from a couple of bookies whose nous I respect (but do not use as I'm a BSP fan). I strike out the lowest & highest priced and 'bingo' I'm left with my selected bet. I usually do win & loaded place. Here's what I made of the Sedge 1.35 today. Horse name-rated-present digital odds on offer. (did this a couple of hours ago mind you) Teo Vivo 8--8.0 Ascot De Bruyere 9--5.5 Wolf Sword 8--5.0 The selection is in bold.
Beef Stew and dumplings. 9/10. Hope everyone behaves themselves on the forum today and let’s try not to spend most of it mocking that incredibly ‘camp’ Boxing thread! Today’s racing looks about as appealing as the plague, in my opinion, but one heat that I have been studying re the runners and riders is that ‘I’m in the Jungles’ ahead of it kicking off at the weekend. Old girl Carol Vorderman is like me loved by the nation, something of a national institution, a great wit and has a brilliant brain as well. 12’s is far too big, methinks. Good luck all.
Seems good the lunch, SBC, how did it lose the one valuable point? Don't worry about the Boxing thread, although the 'camp' description did make me laugh. The racing is dire, but on this Scottsdale bumper thing, I will have a look at it, give a selection, and that will be one to strike off with no chance. Tell Oddy that, believe it or not, I 'overnighted' in Scottsdale on a family package tour of the USA in 1983, sponsored by the airline LTU. Was a very well-arranged tour too, enjoyed it immensely. Even did some casual business en-route as well. Remember Scottsdale because it was so bloody hot, and while the others in our group wandered off with our leader to look at the desert (God, I'd already seen enough of that in my life) I declined and found myself a super little air-conditioned bar. The bartender mixed me the most superb Canadian Club rye whisky, with Canada Dry ginger ale, a touch of lemon, and one small block of ice. He then announced to all the other guys that I was a visitor from Europe, and a damn good time was had by all. Returned to the hotel and my group of tourists in a very happy frame of mind. My missus and daughter, however, banished me to our room for the rest of the day. Then, on to San Francisco the next day. Scottsdale was AOK, for sure.
I once spent Christmas in Scottsdale Swanny. Christmas day was 25°C and I remember plucking a fresh orange from a tree and thinking "how nice" Fresh pasta with pumpkin and spinach, a side salad and a portion of fries. 10/10, fan-bloody-tastic.
Same reason it does every week the carrots are sliced way, way too thick. The rest of the dish is faultless, really first class, but every week the carrots are too thick. Not a fan of a chunky carrot, meself. Cosmeapolitan starting to be given entries over hurdles, people, may go as early as Thursday.
2 boiled eggs and a slice of toast with some really cheap vegetable spread. Somebody has to keep it real 7/10
.......and so, my fancy in the bumper at Huntingdon, hopefully not the one to forget, is: Samburu Shujaa (Philip Hobbs gets one or two Huntingdon bumper winners, and ridden by the champion jockey, that'll do for me).
