I see it's the annual Racing Post story of Al Ferof being in tip top shape for the King George ...the race that he hasn't looked great in the last twice lol. Still not sure on his trip personally but if they are going to go 3m King George then they should try the Gold Cup too because I know John Hales has always fancied him for it but Nicholls was never keen. Watched Vautour again last night. I decided he has to make the running at Kempton. Last thing he wants is to get buzzed up and keen. Stride out, jump well, and put pressure on the rest. Biggest worry is going right handed rather than the trip. Any news on the Kempton going?
I see this one’s brother, Charlie, has appointed ‘Dazzler’ Holland as his ‘stable jockey’ for next term. Although, of course, several of the owners at the barn have their own retained rider so it most deffo won’t be a case of him getting on everything in the stable.
Yesterday lunchtime - Kempton is on the soft side of good to soft. soft on the bend adjacent to the lake. Going stick is C: 6.2, H: 5.9. Weather Forecast 4mm of rain overnight. Forecast: Monday - Blustery, with band of rain early evening; 4mm. Tuesday - Blustery with band of rain early evening; 6mm Wednesday - Sunny spells and remaining blustery with odd shower. Thursday - Spell of heavy rain mid-morning; 7mm Friday - Colder but sunny morning then occasional rain; 2mm Saturday - A fine day with sunny intervals and staying mild; +12
No, unfortunately, not. Nothing has been highlighted at all. There is a long term one though which I know I’ve said before, and that’s, Doubly Clever in the ‘Fred Winter’ at the Festival. Unbeaten over hurdles (3/3) it is envisaged, at this stage, that he won’t run over them again until Cheltenham (may have an all-weather run as a ‘prep’ a few weeks before then though). Noel Fehily has ridden him in all his races, over the sticks, and was apparently very impressed. The stable have never had a beast anywhere near this good but certainly know what to do with a horse. As a result he should be hugely, and I do mean hugely, underestimated by those bookie chappies. Doubly Clever is currently 40/1 for the race but it seems pointless to dive into the ante-post market, yet, as I can’t see those odds contracting for quite some time.
I personally don't think al ferof has the class to win this. In my view it's a two horse race between Don Cossack and Cue Card. I'm leaning towards Don at the moment. Will wait to see what the vibes are like from the Elliot camp before I decide to have a bet.
