Some fancy entries in the Tanners Prosecco Fillies' Junior 'National Hunt' Hurdle (12.45 Ludlow) including one from Lieutenant Henderson's barn and one owned by The Queen Consort (Camilla to those in the know) and Chips Keswick. Looking at the race conditions, this is "For 3yo fillies which have not run in a flat race, which have not run in any race prior to 1st October 2022 and have not run in more than three previous hurdles" so there isn't a lot to go on. Jaminska (4/1 into 3/1) and Imperial Jade (9s into 8s) have been nibbled at this morning but I do think Citizen Jane will have learnt plenty and can build on her debut second to go close here at around 10/1 (and in fact it will be ten to one - or 12.50 in new money - by the time the race finishes - boom boom as Basil Brush used to say). Complete stab in the dark of course.
I’d be amazed if there’s any good in the going description at Ludlow. The course had 3 inches of snow on it a week ago when I drove by. An ew Henry Daly, Sheila Lewis double double for me to bring some festive cheer. Good luck all
Anthony Britton and Cam Hardie have both had a dry spell but i think Bellagio man could change that for them . Bellagio has been very consistant at Newcastle and at 15/2 wh 7s general i am more than willing to take a chance. (445)
Isnt it funny how when you dont have any turf racing for a week or so you suddenly get decent field sizes when it starts again............
Hereford seeing plenty of runners - including the bumper where I notice the 11th richest man in Wales introduces one from the family of Whisper. Looks a nice bumper - thoughts? Feel free to post on tomorrow's thread
I will get to it but I have been looking through the Lingfield race which has some really nice pedigrees including Frodon's half sister. Just taken the 70/1 five places on PEARLY GIRL on the faint chance that she is half as good as her dam!
For the Hendo fanatic - Towards rear of midfield, pushed along and lost touch 5th, ridden and stayed on from 3 out, never on terms (jockey said, regarding the running and riding, that his instructions were to be positive, but allow the gelding to find a rhythm and get his confidence whilst trying to achieve his best possible placing on this his first hurdle run. He explained that he was outpaced from the off due to the decent early pace so was further back than he had intended and lost further ground as the field accelerated down the back straight. He added that he was squeezing the gelding along and giving the gelding slaps down the neck in order to improve his position, and despite jumping well throughout had been unable to make up any ground until entering the home straight, from which point he was only passing tired horses which had tried to lay up with the pace and also came to end of its run jumping the last hurdle. Brennan confirmed he had reported back to the trainer that the gelding had jumped well but felt the gelding would appreciate better ground and a longer trip than today's 2 miles) (op 80/1)
The intriguing thing for me, re this Scarpered, is the ownership change that took place in October. From that date changed to 'Seven Barrows Ltd'. Always thought there was something a bit 'Zorin Industries' re SBL but eyecatching that Scarpered remained in the yard rather than be sold out of it after the former syndicate who owned him cried enough. I guess we will see the best of Scarpered once he gets a handicap mark...nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more. Meanwhile, I see that after the race the vet (although not that vet) examined this one (Scarpered not old boy Hendo). This examination 'failed to reveal any abnormalities'.
