Not hugely impressed by any of the pedigrees to be honest and no real market support for any yesterday evening. I did have a bet on the Getaway as I was up from yesterday but no huge conviction behind it.
My main fancy today has to be THEOS CHARM in the 2:30

It hasn't won for 3 year. You hoping the 2nd run post wind op is going to work?

I like Barntown. Vaughans horses are running well and this horse was travelling great when it came down at the last fence, last week.

Indeed I am. I thought it ran a belter on reappearance and only blew up late on. Should strip fitter this time and though we may not be in love with the yard they are most definitely on form.

Hold That Taught comes from a nice family. Six winning siblings and counting. I do find the sales price of these winning Irish pointers bizarre though. If you added up the career earnings of all his siblings it would only just come to the number of £s they have paid for this one!

But if you pay 440k you too could win a listed bumper at Cheltenham. It’s amazing how much money individuals are pumping into pointers.

I also like CREATIONIST in the big race at Kempton today. Was waiting to see if they made a move on it and missed the 7/1. I would prefer to see it over 12f but think this has been the target for some time.

People used to buy winning pointers from Ireland with the view that they would improve once being professionally trained in a UK yard. The joke is that this an industry within itself of highly skilled professionals picking up nicely bred youngsters fairly cheap and training them to be in peak condition for a tilt at a point to point usually ridden by one of Irelands Professional Amateur jockeys! Then along comes Nicholls and one of his many competitors and they bid themselves crazy for a gelding who will never recoup the initial outlay. Of course there are going to be the odd success story but the law of averages has to tell you that the negative column is way longer than the plus.

You say that though, how many of the festival winners 2019 were pointers in Ireland ?

I’d say along with the French buys they would make up a large percentage.

hence why the great and the good buy them at crazy prices after they’ve won competitive races in the P2P scene.

very different to the Didmarton point!!

I was thinking about this, what with Nass saying 400 grand for a pointer. That getaway has got to be the most overrated stallion ever. Over the last couple of years all you would hear from racing folk in the Cheltenham wine bars was getaway this and getaway that, and I bought into it it backing them blind. I haven’t seen a good one yet.

Are you sure they weren’t just telling you to ‘get away’?!? Only joking…

You can still get cheap buys from the pointing field, team. The Blake’s, over the summer, picked up one that was unbeaten in that sphere for just £8k. Still waiting for his NH bow...

Getaway stands for 7.5k, and has got horses like Verdana Blue, Getaway Trump and Jarveys Plate. I’d say that’s not bad for 7.5k a go.

and that includes the one in the Foxhunters
way behind the French breds that Mullins and Elliott seem to go for.

Interesting fact that I never knew that I stumbled across is that TIGER ROLL started out under the stewardship of one N HAWKE

He bought him for £10k raced him once and then sold him for £80k. Not a bad return. Although if The Hawke had kept him…

Also one another that Godolphin couldn't do anything with - sold him to The Hawke unraced for the above £10k sum.
