Day 1 of Royal Ascot with three Group 1s on a cracking card. Elsewhere they race at Brighton, Kempton, Stratford (NH), Thirsk and Sligo. Little life changing e/w Lucky 63 for me at Ascot: 2.30 Declaration Of War 3.05 Reckless Abandon 3.45 Glory Awaits 4.25 Sir John Hawkins 5.00 Lieutenant Miller 5.35 Justice Day Best of luck everyone
Reckless Abandon each way. With a clear passage he'll run a great race. Lieutenant Miller - Barney's convinced me.
All about Sole Power tomorrow, my only proper bet. EW. Also done a crazy 25p EW acca and tiny doubles with Declaration Of War @ 7/1 Sole Power @ 9/1 Mars @ 10/1 Sir John Hawkins @ 6/1 Suraj @ 16/1 Sefaat @ 33/1 It is Ascot, if Frankie can go through a card, surely we can?
GGW likes Sole Power tomorrow And Dawn Approach But not Animal Kingdom He thinks Glory Awaits is worth a small e/w bet He has no opinion in the juvenile races and no interest in the national hunt race
The night before Cheltenham in March I'm overwrought with excitement and nerves. I listen to a couple of racing podcasts and read the forums. Tonight, the night before Royal Ascot, I'm watching Rick Stein's India and I'd rather eat a curry than watch a horse race. **** the flat. Roll on the jumps boys. I'll see you when the racing gets interesting again.
I'm working all day tomorrow, with no chance to see any of the racing. And not really that bothered to be honest.
That street food looks quality Bob though I suspect the vendors wouldn't fair too well with the local authority scores on the doors kitchen hygiene ratings system. Then again my local kebab shop scored a zero and they do a mean chicken kebab. Anyway at Royal Ascot I fancy Reckless Abandon and Big Easy. I've also had little ew on Chill the Kite
Interesting that you are having a little dabble on Chil the Kite e/w Chaninbar... I like this horse and there's a big race out there for this fella but I come to the conclusion this is a step too far for him... I actually quite like Gabrial each way in that race. Kieran Fallon back on top and I think this horse has real quality... Keiran if anyone can harness his talent as he is undoubtedly a tricky ride.
As a couple of other forum members have posted on here , I dont get the same buzz either from Royal Ascot as I do Cheltenham and Aintree festivals... undoubtedly though there is some quality action. Ascot 2.30pm Gabrial Ascot 3.05pm Reckless Abandon Ascot 3.45pm - a real conundrum this race.. not sure what to expect. Part of me thinks Dawn Approach will storm back to form over his ideal trip, another part of me thinks Toronado could well come back with a bang (Hughes keeps raving about the horse and he was reported to be coughing after the guineas), Mars - Mmmmm i just can t back him at this trip - might be proved wrong and they may ride him differently. Part of me likes the look of Dundonnell. It s likely to be pretty quick going by the time this race gets off and i think he can get the trip . It s worth remembering he missed some work before his flop behind Toronado and got back to form latest. Still think this horse has real class. So thats my pick - Dundonnell Ascot 5pm - Mysterious Man. Think this longer trip will be right up his street. As I am working tomorrow I cant watch the races so it will be a no bet day me thinks. I am tempted to put a small each way on Dundonnel at 20/1 but we'll see ..
Two fairly lumpy and also fairly obvious bets for me tommorrow - Magician in the St James', and Stubbs in the Coventry. And if it all goes wrong, Anticipated to get me out of jail in the last.
Animal Kingdom, Shea Shea & Dawn Approach Treble pays just over 17/1 a few quid on that for me and also 3 doubles
I have done this also Wooley Apologies in advance I like Swiss Spirit in the King's Stand if Shea Shea proves to be a dud dud
Either Great Minds Think Alike or Fools never differ! Likewise too Reebok, I too have done e/w on swiss spirit if Shea Shea does turn out to be a hype horse! So Apologies too
Although it is Royal Ascot, flat racing just does not blow up my skirt the way that National Hunt racing does. Having said that I have sponged a couple of tips from here (thanks Nass and Barney!!) and I have done a small Super Yankee with a mix from Ascot and Stratford so I have a little interest... 2:45 Stratford - Rime Avec Gentil 6/1 3:05 Ascot - Sole Power 9/1 3:20 Stratford - Or d'Ordairies 7/1 4:25 Ascot - Championship 5/1 5:00 Ascot - Lieutenant Miller 11/1 Good luck guys and girls!!
The first day of Royal Ascot is the punter’s best chance of beating the bookies with the card dominated by group races. I am going to start by opposing the supposed good thing Animal Kingdom. On the ratings it is ten pounds better than anything else in the Queen Anne but this is a mile on turf not ten furlongs on dirt and he is no odds-on shot. His class may tell out but I think the other jockeys can get him beaten by running the race at a moderate pace. It is a shame that Farhh is not in here as he would have been the bet. Declaration Of War’s price is entirely down to the name O’Brien appearing next to it as the Lockinge runner-up Sovereign Debt is twice the price. With so many hold-up horses in the race (Lockinge failures Aljamaaheer, Chil The Kite and Trumpet Major), I think that William Buick may try to steal this from the front on Elusive Kate, who tried to make all in last year's QEII. The Kings Stand only appears to contain one potential home sprinting superstar so it seems that punters have to decide whether Kingsgate Native wants to run two good races back-to-back, whether the enigmatic Sole Power gets everything his own way; or whether they fancy the two raiders from other continents, Shamexpress and Shea Shea, the latter of which is the best horse in the field on ratings and is accordingly a short-priced favourite. It will be interesting to see how Reckless Abandon fares as weight-for-age is not favourable at this time of year but he is second-top rated. On the ratings, the St James’s Palace looks like a match between Dawn Approach and Magician. The former blotted his copybook on an ill-advised expedition to Epsom and there has to be a question about whether there is any improvement still to come. The latter does look to be improving and the drop back to a mile at The Curragh was not an inconvenience; plus they have their excuses already in place (interrupted preparation). Newmarket failure Toronado has become an excuses horse so I expect he will be running in the Queen Anne next year. It is hard to make a case for any of the others as they have upwards of ten pounds to find. The Coventry is another example of the O’Brien name being reflected in the betting. Stubbs won a four-runner race in a common canter - big deal - but Dawn Approach came the same route. There are seven unbeaten records in the line-up, two of them are stablemates of the once-beaten favourite and three are from the Hannon two-year-old factory. Most of these could be anything. Statistics say that the winner is probably in the front six in the betting. No bet, just watch. If the media reports about the late Sir Henry Cecil’s comments to the owner are correct, the Ascot Stakes is going the way of Tiger Cliff; but I will not touch the race as half the field are NH plodders. The getting out stakes is the Windsor Castle, a small field of two year olds that should be easy to sort out. As Richard Hughes has opted for Anticipated, an unbeaten course and distance winner, we can assume that it is the best of the four Hannon entries. Wesley Ward’s raider from across The Pond, Ogermeister, is bound to have his supporters. Whilst this looks competitive numerically quite a few can be easily discounted so a Hannon win is Anticipated.
Just one bet for me tomorrow and its not very original but going in and going in hard on Dawn Approach.
Jumps racing is ****, I hate jump racing, does anyone care? no so why do people keep saying they hate the flat and love the jumps over and over again, no one gives a ****. Anyway tomorrow. Animal Kingdom Shamexpress Dawn Approach Thunder Strike
