What was the full story surrounding Sean Curran runner at Exeter? Stopped from participating minutes from the race itself after a big punt was after taking place? Is it the racing chiefs making these decisions or was it the power of the bookmakers? Absoultey scandalous I think, unless I am not after getting the two sides of the story. @NassauBoard or anybody with any more information regarding this one?
BHA integrity unit. Whatever that is. The old rogues trying to land a punt, and the BHA trying to make the sport cleaner. Shame they are picking on small yards again, given some of the **** that goes on in the bigger picture.
So much easier when they don't have to face expensive lawyers in Court. If it had been a big yard, I doubt they would have taken such drastic action. Probably an enquiry into betting patterns after the race, had it won, at worst
Is it bookmaker backed this unit, I wonder? And that's exactly true, would horses be stopped if it was a more prominent figure in the industry ? I think we all know that answer. It is a bit rank alright, what harm is the odd trainer making a few bob off a race or two, especially in the climate many find themselves in today with costing etc. Is this leading down the road then that all gambles, or any horse being well supported in the betting offices/online being pulled for integrity purposes?
Exactly what I thought and, logically, yes. But, of course, they will be scared of extremely costly legal battles
I can understand genuine interest in protecting the integrity of the sport but how do you really know where the money is coming from on any given horse nowadays unless you gather tons of data and follow the money trail after the event. With the swell of social media "tipsters", you can potentially have hundreds or thousands of people backing a certain horse and driving the price in and it might be nothing to do with the trainer/yard punting it at all. From that point of view, it can be harsh to go and pull one out unless they can categorically say such and such is at it, but even at that, there is nothing wrong with someone involved with a horse having a punt on it. The field sizes will be getting smaller and smaller If this is the future of racing.
Very interesting discussion re the old boy Stewards and integrity. Re this anyone see that the day before (Easter Monday) was the first time in Scarpered's hurdling career that the stewards didn't have 'a word' with his trainer or their representative!!! Scarpered has now, in 3 hurdle runs, been beaten (in date order) 32, 69 and 57 lengths. His handicap mark is unveiled on Tuesday...
