What a way to start a game.........I'm surprised this hasn't been tried sooner..... http://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/39580244 Don't be put off by the link saying Rugby Union.......
The way Ollie plays 5-3-2 at home, we're more likely to have 7 in our back line than have 7 chasing a goal.
So what's the fastest goal you've seen watching Rangers live. I can recall two. Don Givens scoring against Everton within just over a minute when we hammered them 5-0 in that glorious season we almost won the title. 1975/6. The other one was in about October/November 72 when we lost at home to Millwall in our promotion season under Jago. I seem to recall they scored in 31seconds and ended up winning 3-1. If memory is not playing tricks, all the goals were in the first half and it was our only defeat at home that season.
I have actually scored like that once. I have also hit the bar off the keeper's finger-tips. If memory serves me well, I have tried about 15 times; most goalkeepers are on the edge of the box at kick-off.
A lad in my under 11s school team did this twice in a season. He noticed the first time that the keeper was up at the edge of the box shouting encouragement to his team. He tried it a few times after that, when we restarted the match after letting in a goal. (we did quite a lot of that!)
Similar to my lads junior team who were trying it nearly every game a couple of seasons ago, unfortunately without success. At least it got the ball far enough away from their goal so as not to concede straight away!!
It does make you wonder how the coaching fraternity seem to have pretty much universally decided that the only worthwhile kick-off under the new rule is to hoof it down one side and look for an early throw-in. There seems to be very few innovators any more. Too many coaching badges and not enough Brian Clough if you ask me.
When you have long ball extraordinaire Joel Lynch in the team it's criminal not to aim for the corner flag and intentionally give the ball away under no pressure three seconds into the game.
Why? We might as well switch to playing that, we're really good at hoofing the ball up to the opponents' 25 yard line expecting a line out
