i'd say £8m is a fair fee. it also depends on the structure of any bid, whether its up front or spread over 3-4 years….

£8 m is about right for a keeper....you would only get £15m if a big club was buying off another big club. Marshal has not proved himself as a big team player yet and probably never will...

Times have changed Dai. Wenger picked up Ramsey off us for peanuts when we were on our arse because we were desperate for the dosh at the time. He'll have to dig a lot deeper for the club to part with a class player again at below market value.

What is market value I hear you ask?. It's whatever someone is prepared to pay in an open market - it's as simple as that.

Not sure what you meant about "£8M being about right for a keeper". What keeper are we talking about? Are they all the same?

£8m is a great offer considering dai said marshall being poor was one of the reasons we went down……..<laugh>

What you have to realise with bids from Arsenal is this. They pay the full amount at the time of the transfer, unlike the vast majority of clubs who pay for their signings over a period of time. Thats why Ramsey went to Arsenal and not Man Utd. They can be in the driving seat even if the bid is way lower than others, especially if the clubs they intend to buy from need the money. Shrewd.

That's exactly the point isaw. The Ramsey purchase was an example of a deal struck because a club needed ready cash and not stage payements. It's much the same as our Le Fondre deal with Reading, though the other way around this time with us in the driving seat instead of taking the shafting.

If we were in the same desperate financial state with the Revenue knocking at the door right now, we would have snapped Wenger's hand off for his initial offer of £6M for Marshie. The fact is, we're not under any pressure and Wenger can whistle till the cows come home unless he offers the club a figure we find acceptable.

If he's buying him as his number 2 I honestly wonder if Marshie will want to go?

Saw the bit in the papers with him saying how proud he is to be Scotland's current number 1. He can forget about that if he spends 80% of the next 3 seasons on the bench.

If anyone offers 9-10 mill + and he wants to go we should do the deal as he is the one player in our squad who deserves without question to carry on playing in the PL.

It's a fair point about Marshie deserving to play in the Premier League after his exploits last season. The problem is that he was quite happy to sign a huge contract extension with City last season when it was very likely that we were going down at the time.

Now that that's the case, we'll see how much a contract is actually worth. I've not heard about any release clause figure in that contract, and to be fair to Marshie, he's repeatedly said he wants to continue playing at Cardiff. Maybe the fact that he didn't insist on a release clause like Caulker and Medel is a measure of his sincerity?

Taking a more pragmatic point of view, if he does want to go and the right price is waived under our noses, I would rather see him get what he wants. I do agree however, that I doubt very much that he would want to bench sit at Arsenal waiting for Szcvesny to get injured.

Still think there's some mileage in this one. What other teams in the Prem (that could afford him that is) would he walk into with a decent chance of being the No.1 choice?

Well the news from Whitchurch is this, Marshie gets his haircut in my mates shop !! (this one is true !) my mate is a Swansea fan, and honest as the day is long. Marshie signed the contract extension as he is very happy and settled in Cardiff, his children/child are happy and settled in the school that they intend. Perhaps we may have a player here who is just happy with his lot and not driven by the ££££ signs. However if Cardiff think the price is right he may have no choice.

Of course he has a choice - he's got a 4 year contract and hasn't got to go anywhere. That may be a bit naive, but a contract should work both ways. <ok>

Hope you're right Isaw. Of all those at risk Marshie is the one I would most like to stay - and the hardest one to replace. <ok>

A decent keeper will do well enough at championship level.

I'd like him to stay but won't be too disappointed if he goes as I am sure City will get a top replacement.

Not Steven Bywater though <yikes>

Jack Butland looking for a loan move - he can't get a game at Stoke. Don't know if he'd want to drop back into the Championship, but he certainly needs to play games.

A cheeky loan move with an option to buy if we get promoted perhaps?

I really hope we keep him more than anyone else.

At the Chelsea game I said to the fella who sits in front of me I thought he'd stay as otherwise he wouldn't have signed the contract. I was told he lives on the same street and his house is already for sale so "He's gone already!". I did point out that a lucrative new contract could mean he's moving into an even nicer house.......

I think that Spurs replacing Lloris if he throws his toys out of the pram is the only 'likely' destination. However happy Marshall is a chance to play for one of Englands top 7 clubs with European football would be a once in a career chance.
I did say way back which club in the top 7/8 needs him? Then which club under them will pay £10m for a keeper?

£10mill and Butland as a replacement would be excellent business though!

I think it is important that he wants to stay. It makes it a lot easier for the club when negotiating. I really think the club wants to keep him and he would take a crazy offer of something like 12-15 million to get him. For some reason, I have a feeling he will be lining up for us on opening day.

The longer we say "no" the more likely the other clubs will be off looking at replacements. Eventually there won't be any clubs left willing to pay more than 6 million.
