We all know there are no guarantees on football but I'm stating right here and now we have finally found the man to deliver. Providing he is now given time and left to get on with it and we dont demand the moon in five months time!*I'm not deriving this from this first press conference (where there are only so many ways you can promise the same thing differently) but because of the footballer he was, the assistant he went on to be, and the manager he has become. Many are worried about his lack of premiership experience but if ever a there was a top manger in the making then this is one destined for the very top and I for one am so relieved he has decided to take this next step in our companyHis tenure with us will be exceptional - my only worry - even at this early stage is that he has so much ambition he may not stay around to long to take a bow. But at this stage that's the least of our worries. Not to long ago someone told us to relax but I don't think many of us really did. But now we have Gus on the bus I'm as relaxed as Baloo the bear.Even if you are not convinced we have nothing to lose at this stage so there is still no reason on Gods earth why everyone should not now get behind him with everything we have - as he says... together
Watched his talk on SAFSEE and was immediately impressed by him, don't know why cos he never really said that much, I just felt at ease with him straight away. Lets hope he can do the same with the players.
I hope somebody has told the old lags that they are in this 'together', otherwise its a non-starter!"That way of playing football needs to be adaptable to the players. If you want to play football, but you don't have the players, it's not going to work, so you need to work, convince, use the ability of the players."*Good luck fella, you might need it to convince one or two about the new philosophy of playing football and not just lumping it forward
It's all psychological IMO. We are at heart pack animals, Poyet is now leader of the pack so at this point in time he can do no wrong. Dont get me wrong I'm pleased Poyet got the job as to me he was the best of a rather average bunch. I'm sure however if that anti Football Hooligan Pulis had got the job. I'm sure I could of found something nice to say about him. I may have cheered every long throw or danced with glee everytime one of our players cynically blocked their keeper on corners...Thank God I'll never know.
Sorry, Swansea fan here. Look, he's not going to ask them to turn into the galacticos overnight, it's more if a way of adapting to a system of play. you have the players as he will develop his system too play to their strengths. There are lots of ways to develop possession football and it doesn't always take a long time to introduce it successfully. Look at Everton? They have suddenly become the pass masters of the Premier league! I for one am gutted you got him in just before you play us!
Thing is mate. We've done it once this season almost to your standard. First home game of the season vs Fulham. We retained the ball beautifully. We've got an excellent new centre back who's starting to settle (Roberge), who's strongest part of his game is bringing the ball out from the back. Cattermole looks a much more accomplished passer and you know all about Ki (Who's is looking very good ta mate.) We've already shown we can keep the ball very well, and our summer recruitment was centered around bringing more skill and technique into the squad. Problem is Paolo lost the dressing room rather quick and the players stopped giving a ****. The performances from that first home game is still within our capabilities. I think we'll see the difference quicker than some might think, over the next 5 games in fact. Problem is that although attractive football is great to watch it doesn't guarantee points as we saw against Fulham and I think the thing that will take time is any kind of killer instinct.
I think the difference here is that Di Canio has very little respect for his players. At Swindon it seemed at times that he actually despised them. Poyet on the other hand has taken the time to nurture and want to develop his players whatever their standard. He has shown he has both qualities to demand and show respect, it's a two thing, unlike with Di Canio so it seems. For that reason alone, I think he'll turn things around for you this season, and that may just be the start.
Exactly, obviously once the competitive matches started (fulham the exception as there was nothing to complain about) Paolo went too far regarding individual errors and lost the dressing room there and then and he never got a performance from them again. I think Poyet will take one look at the fulham game a see possession football is possible with the right approach.
Di Canio was a friggin nutcase and the worst example of man management in my time watching football. I think Universities will use PDC in their Management Degree Courses soon as examples of how NOT to manage a business or organisation. I have never known a manager lose the entire staff he manages in about 6 months and that includes 10 weeks holidays when they never even saw him? that means he lost them in around 12 weeks. An astonishing failure on his part and his part alone. For the record. I am absolutely convinced we will stay up under Poyet but it could well be by the skin of our teeth in May. Tough season of graft ahead.
getting very boring now cest, you was the same telling us all how oneil was the football god and we were lucky to have such a brilliant manager, well we all know what happened there dont we,like everything the fullness of time will tell, support will given no doubt about that ,but if he ever plays jo and cc together i will be convinced there is a football devil within the club at work,i hope and pray he has recognised this. he will go the same way
