Last season was one to remember and bought us all a great deal of cheer so I want to go on record and thank Steve Cotterell for those heady days.

Very few of us will ever know the truth of what was going on behind the scenes but I do wonder if the article about why Zack Clough didn't come here wasn't the final straw. The comment in particular highlighted by Wiz in his thread was very revealing for me.

The offer we made was a good one, one that would have fitted in with our dressing room.

Clearly the spat with the fan on Tuesday wasn't Cott's finest hour however the big question for me is who is "we", SC and KB or was SL in charge. There are clubs queuing up to sign the lad so what he is on now at Bolton is totally irrelevant. If you want quality, you have to pay the going rate for it...

If it was SC controlling the offer, then the implication is that he was more worried about not upsetting his boys rather than progressing the club. I have no idea what our lads get paid but it is the natural order of things that as any club progresses, better players are bought in and generally, you need to pay them more. Had we been running away with the division then different matter, the current dressing room would be in a position of power but we are not, quite the opposite in fact. If this was the case, then I think the decision was inevitable

He could however have been acting on instructions as to salary cap however bearing in mind the **** that we are in and the help that the squad clearly needs, I do have to wonder if that could possibly be the case.

In the main, most supporters of Bristol City liked the SC, he was a breath of fresh air with his honesty and forthright views when he came here and I think we would have liked to see him take us on but something, somewhere wasn't right and this evening's action is pointing the finger, at least partly in his direction.

Anyway, I would like to thank SC and wish him all the best and success going forward....

I find the timing strangely convenient for the board who were beginning to find an avalanche of criticism finally directed at them, we have had the usual suspects on here calling for Lansdown to sell up whilst giving no viable alternative.. it was a growing issue, as you state by sacking Cotterill the finger points away from the board again.

I can now tell you that I have friends who have a daily business interest at Ashton Gate and they have been saying for a while that Cotts was not very appealing to potential recruits for various reasons, this did seem to have some weight as time went on but surely can't be the only reason we are left with such a small squad, I liked his passion and his reluctance to change formation was almost admirable. but his subs policy I admit was bizarre. (I noticed he used the subs on 75 on Tues for the first time ever?)

That fan in the Atyeo has a lot to answer for along with all the other impatient fickle fans who bring their negativity to Ashton Gate with them each week.. shame on you.

Me too- I liked the guy. Gave us the best season in memory last year- We should have either done this before Christmas or left it to the end of the season. personally, I would have kept him even if its in league 1-
