Perhaps he won't turn out to be another Danny Graham (Swansea, then various loans), Steve Morison (now back at Millwall) etc. who never really cut it in the big league. Who knows, maybe Jordan Rhodes would be another one of these types, perhaps even our Charlie (who knows, we'll see). Remy would have been the real deal, just a mercenary goal scorer (14 for Newcastle last season, even with injuries & bans). Perhaps Troy Deeney will be a relevation - someone to bring off the bench to try and mix things up a little, cover injuries, lower league cup games etc.
Cheers factamondo. I saw the WATRB and .org threads that suggest this too. 8.5 would be way too much though..
As long as we get one experienced striker as well, I think this would be a great signing. Stop me if I'm wrong but he is the top scorer from the second tier last season so I recon he's worth the gamble.
I'm an advocate for signing players with points to prove and a hunger to play in the top flight £8.5 million though is a big fee for a player with a non existent top flight goal record. He'd certainly be a gamble.
Someone with twice the skill and experience from the continent would be half the price, unfortunately it's because of all the cheap foreign imports that any half decent English player is so expensive because their opportunities are so limited now, hence we are only getting half as many English players making it in the upper leagues nowadays. You look at the way the Spanish had been playing and now the way ze Germans are playing, you look at their domestic teams, with the exception of Madrid, foreign players are the exception not the rule, it's something we have to get back to if we ever want a decent England team again, oh and sensible prices for young unproved players.
I don't think this one's got legs really. No proper press linking us with Deeney, only forum hearsay. Leicester would appear to be the frontrunners according to recent articles; the telegraph's suggesting Watford are asking them for £10mill: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...id-for-Watfords-Troy-Deeney-to-10million.html (also says we had a bid turned down)
Not really too fussed about this one TBH but at least we are being linked and are after younger, hungry players with a point to prove. show we are looking at and can identify they types and ages we need. we have enough experience so id like him to come to us but if not we'll get another. Keep up the good work lads
I can't believe we could pay so much for an untried PL player but hey .... He's young, he can score goals, he's also young, did l mention that? Lets give him a go!
Was the name Troy suggested by Troy Tempest of Stingray fame and extreme rigidity of features? I would like to sign him. And Virgil Tracey, Captain Scarlett, Brains and the Hood. I have now officially entered my second childhood. This bloke would be an expensive risk. Why not buy 2 players from abroad for the same price and double your chances? Well, we know the answer to that.
