    Newcastle transfers: Troy Deeney bid could force QPR to drop Charlie Austin asking price
    New boss Steve McClaren has made his strike-force the top priority and is eyeing £10m raid on Watford as Hoops demand £15m for their star man
    • 21 Shares
    • Watford striker Troy Deeney.
      Newcastle boss McClaren has made his strike force his top priority and they are hopeful of landing QPR striker Charlie Austin.
      Relegated QPR are holding out for £15m and Newcastle, by looking at Deeney, could convince them to drop their asking price.
      Watford rejected a £9m bid from McClaren in January when he was still in charge at Derby so it is clear he likes the striker, whether Austin moves or not.
      McClaren has around £25m to spend this summer and he plans to shake up his squad and is desperate to get moving on new signings.

      Sinking ship: But Austin hit 18 goals for Hoops last season
      Watford are bracing themselves for a bid for Deeney but it would take big money to persuade them to sell their captain and most prolific scorer as they prepare to return to the top flight.
      McClaren also wants to take Brighton defender Lewis Dunk to Newcastle.
      Centre-half Dunk, 23, is valued at around £5m by the Seagulls.
      Who would you rather sign?
      • 88% Charlie Austin
      • 12% Troy Deeney
      why when half the premiership apparently want him would Newcastle looking at someone else make QPR drop the price

    18 EPL goals...... Charlie has to be a better bet. Surprised a major club hasn't secured him yet.

    Despite what Geordies think, other clubs exist too. Someone will pay £10-15m for him. Didn't Charlie distance himself from Newcastle anyway? I guess that means nothing with modern footballers though.

    With Watford just having been promoted, I can't see Deeney going anywhere this season

    Charlie will probably ask TF to charge Newcastle more than $15 million if he has to go to them.

    Hope so, if I had supported another team beside QPR, it would have been the pool.

    Troy Deeney => GBP 10M ????
    Charlie Austin => GBP 15M
    Harry Kane => GBP 40M ????
    Raheem Sterling => GBP 50M ????

    Charlie as a proven and in form Premiership goal scorer. He is a real bargain at GBP15M (and unfortunately, we will say goodbye to him at that price)

    The Geordies will struggle next season, if i were Charlie i would look somewhere else.
    Plus the fact Newcastle is basically Scotland and Charlie is a southern boy.

    So the story is that newly promoted Watford are going to sell their top striker for 1m more than they rejected 5 months ago and that puts pressure on us to sell to a club he has no interest in going to?

    Only a club like Newcastle could have a story like this.

    Mediocre club in a **** part of the world but in their own bubble think they're massive

    Saw a story other day saying they should offer the no.9 to entice him?! Ha

    That's some sort of incentive. <doh> No 9 and playing in Scotland. Charlie lives in the South as does his family (who want to stay down south). Maybe we should loan him to Newcastle for a season so he can see what Remy did and leave as soon as he can.

    Yes, they should offer Tonz, 9 million pounds and 9 million pounds = 18 million pounds .................... ( but I still don't want to see him there.)
    With fans like Newcastles', Mclaren has to be on a hiding to nothing.

    I don't understand Mclaren, he had this job here all sewn up. He knew Harry was going eventually and surely TF and our club would be a better bet than Newcastle, being that both fans and owners aren't so screwed up.

    Apparently West Ham are in the box seat to sign Charlie now,we shouldn't be lowering our price to anyone,if they want him that badly,pay up or sod off!

    Someone will pay £15m if the club, for once, doesn't get all giddy at the thought of someone actually wanting one of our players and waits.

    Fernandes will probably swap him for some magic beans

    Fitting Charlie into the trending of those estimates puts him at £20 million. Which must be about what we should be aiming to get for him, with a number of established PL Clubs apparently interested.

    Continuing the trending € 80 million for Sterling would do it for us too.

    Oslo - benchmarking those potential valuations, then I you are correct and Charlie is worth around 20 million. However, as we are relegated and he only has one year on his contract, etc, etc, the asking price is dropped to 15 million.

    But for 15 million he is a relative "bargain" and I hope that there will be a bidding war. We should soon know the final outcome, but it will be a shame to see him go.

    At the end of the day we are not forced to sell Austin to anyone. He could very easily turn around and say no i would like to stay here after all why would he want to go to another basket case of a club like Newcastle?

    We don't have to drop our valuation.......if a club wants him cough up what we value him at.....

    Precisely. Stick out for 18-20m and if it's CFC a minimum of 25m.

    Likewise if he makes it clear he wants PL football there is very little we can do to stop it happening. And his refusal to sign a contract extension/ new contract, obviously a move to keep his transfer fee 'reasonable', is a more accurate gauge of what he wants than what he says.

    £14m a very good price I feel.
