Norwich have sacked manager Chris Hughton and Trollope has followed him out the door. I wish we had him now. It all went wrong when the club got rid of him.
Funny thing is though everyone was ok with the decision to get rid of him at the time. There was a general feeling around the club that he had taken it as far as he could and it was time for a change. Just a shame that Nick Higgs appointed the wrong people to succeed him, otherwise we probably wouldn't be in the mess we are now in.
I was dead against his sacking. When on bbc606 before that got shut down, there were a couple who was still fighting PT's corner and I was one of them. Trollope never got the financial backing from the board that he needed to replace Lambert and he never got enough time from the board to see what he can do on his own after Lennie departed. The board made a massive mistake then. I still think to this day that if we kept him we wouldnt have got relegated that season. And as you said AMOT, the board made several mistakes since in letting Patterson have a month in charge, hiring Penney, Buckle then McGhee. I didnt really know who Penney was when he joined but on bbc606 Oldham fans warned us about him. So I wasnt that keen. I was dead against Buckle joining. I was very vocal about that on here when we moved to this site. A lot of gasheads though did want Buckle however. I thought McGhee was a good appointment at the time as experienced and got contacts high up. But that was a mistake. The board have a lot to answer for however the new stadium has papered over their mistakes!
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Yes indeed, there was a general feeling that Trolls had taken us as far as he could at the time, but look at what our expectations were then compared to now. 6/7 years ago we were adamant that we should be pushing for the playoffs into the Championship, now we're just desparate to retain our league status. There is no doubt that tactically Trolls is head and shoulders above what we have had since, and probably motivationally too. I doubt very much whether he would come back to us with the current regime in charge - they failed to properly fund a striker or two when we sold Rickie to the Saints, and that's where it all started going downhill. Let's just hope that DC is the new PT.
I cannot understand why football clubs leave the inevitable until it is too late. If the assistant is thought to be good enough to get them out of the clag, then give him time to put things right. What chance has the guy at Norwich got to keep them in the Prem? He will probably join the queue of those who hide behind failure and blame the situation they were handed. He can only change the tactics and fire the players up. Bit like wots gone on down the Mem??
agree. have you seen who they face in their last 5 games? 6 pointer vs fulham then liverpool, man utd, chelsea and arsenal. ouch!
I liked Trolls, he was a decent bloke and a good coach but things started going wrong after Lennie Lawrence left.
i remember a lot of people on the OS forum demanding lennie to go as wasting club wages as trolls should be able to do things on his own. dont see why things should be tried to be fixed if it wasnt broken. trolls and lennie had a good partnership together and it worked for us. they were let down by the club with lack of funds to replace lambert.
I suppose their board knew that relegation was pretty much inevitable. It does give him a chance to sort who he can keep and who he can acquire for next season.
norwich reminds me of a bit like us. poor against bottom side teams but not bad against the top sides. when i have seen norwich on tv this and last season they do ok against the bigger teams. the way arsenal and man utd have been this season i wont put it past norwich in beating them both!
Every time I've seen Norwich on TV this season they've played quite well. It's just the other games which have been the problem...
I remember saying when he was sacked that we would fall apart!. Looking back at it he was over achieving with us big time! with a crap budget and we were in one of the strongest league 1 competitions for years! League 1 is poor compared to when we were in it.
I have to disagree with that. Look at the top 5, they've been amazing this season. Peterborough are a really good side and their 6th, while City have an excellent squad for the third tier and have spent the whole season in the bottom half.
No not even close. We had Southampton, Leeds and Norwich ! 3 premiership teams who were in mess but had the crowds and facilities to turn it all around with ease, not just them we had a very strong Huddersfield team, donny who are championship yo-yo's MK Dons on the high of a new stadium and promotion! Peterborough who in my eyes were a lot stronger back then compared to now. League 1 now only has a handful of teams with any real class about them. We did extremely well in that league and in my opinion most of that was down to trolls.
