With there being a lot of rain sat Chantilly, Treve was allowed her first piece of work in preparation for a second Arc triumph. More here

Looks like the fact she was not right before the race has been conveniently forgotten. Main thing is she is recovering enough to enjoy a canter. I hope she gets enough give in the ground between now and the Arc to get in a full training program and a prep race. She won't run on fast ground again.
 
Treve again pleased her trainer with a promising gallop on soft ground. They reckon the problem she had is in the past. Translated that means with rest and keeping her off the firm ground she has had a chance to recover. Just like she did between the Prix de Diane and the Prix Vermeille last year. Provided the going in this years Vermeille is softer than good (hopefully not heavy) she will probably win that and then definitely take her place in the Arc. I wouldn't write her off in the Arc if the going is softer than good.
 
In the initial thirty one entries for the Prix Vermeille (14 September), there are some significant opponents for Treve assuming that she shows up.

Aidan O’Brien has Tapestry entered as well as Chicquita, Venus de Milo, Beyond Brilliance (owned by ‘er indoors) and Adeste Fideles; but how often do his entries actually show up?

Freddie Head has We Are entered and Alain de Royer Dupre has four entered for the Aga Khan including Shamkala.

Tasaday is Godolphin’s only entry whilst John Gosden has two: Sultanina and Princess Haya’s Pomology.

The main thing for Criquette Head-Maarek to be looking at is the weather. Whilst they habitually water Longchamp, the current fourteen day forecast does not suggest any natural watering, so Frankie might be making “race rusty” excuses if she gets turned over. No rush for the ante post bets yet then.


Interesting to note that Kingman has been entered for the Prix du Moulin on the same card. I thought he would be going straight to Champions’ Day. Do they think he had an easy enough day at Deauville that they can pick this up on the way?

CRIQUETTE HEAD-MAAREK will continue to prepare Treve for a Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe title defence following discussions with owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, in the wake of the filly's fourth-placed effort in Sunday's Prix Vermeille.

Early indications are that Treve has taken her exertions at Longchamp well and that she is physically none the worse for the race, which marked her return to action following treatment for a back injury sustained at Ascot in June.

"She is fine and she hasn't lost any weight," said Head-Maarek on Monday. "This morning she went out and she was rolling in the paddock and eating grass, she looks great.

"We'll see tomorrow and the day after when she goes out on the track but first impressions are that she looks well. I spoke to Sheikh Joaan and for the moment there is no change in the plan."

Treve is a best-priced 10-1 with Ladbrokes and Paddy Power following her length and a half defeat to Baltic Baroness in the Vermeille.

Ladbrokes spokesman Mike Dillon was one of a number of observers at Longchamp on Sunday to question how comfortable Treve appeared on the quick going.

"I can't see a set of circumstances where she would run if the ground was like it is today," he said.
