I'm still to be fully convinced by Best but hes slowly winning me over with his application and and scoring. However he was overlooked for the Republic of Ireland by trapattoni on the basis that he seems to think he's lazy as can be read in the below article.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-shun-Newcastles-Leon-Best-Ireland-squad.html

Now as ive said many times im still not totally won over by him but i think one aspect that even i cannot argue with is that the lad is a proper grafter. he runs tirelessly for the team and is really pulling for the team. so i find trapattoni's comments a bit surprising to be honest.

well i'd obviously rather he wasn't risked but its nice to get recognition for your efforts and it could only do his confidence the power of good.

i just think his reason for being dropped is a bit proposterous to be honest.

He must be getting Best and Shola mixed up. Even though he hasn't scored in the past 2 games he has put in two good shifts.

I would rather none of our players played International football. Its just another game that they could get injured. It is a catch 22 situation though as they might think they aren't getting the recognition because the play for Newcastle (see a certain Jose Enrique).

Shame, he's been playing really well and his performances in the last two games convinced me has more to him than just being a poacher. He might look slightly lazy in our system as we play Ba slightly deeper as the link man between midfield and attack.

Actually one of my main gripes previusly with Best was his lack of movement and general laziness. Pardew has alluded to it previously aswell. I think Pards deserves some credit with Best to be honest. He's trying the old carrot and stick approach and Best has responded. I have noticed the change in his movement, and his willingness to close down at pace. Previously he'd do a Shola and just leisurely lollop over there.

I'm not totally convinced by him but I don't think you can knock him this season. Pardew made comment about him being laid back character. I think the penny has dropped that this is fine as long as it doesn't follow you onto the pitch. I'd pick him but I suppose Trappatoni will want to see more of it before he picks him because he is very old school and thinks players should feel lucky to be selected. I agree with him to be honest and think he is a cracking manager doing a cracking job.

You're lucky you don't have to watch it.<wah>
But on a serious note yes I wish he was in the squad but that's Trap for you I've long given up on his selection process

I think Trap would like him. He's non stop and he's a grafter, he gets stuck in for a little fella. He likes players with a high technical level who are team players. Ferguson strikes me as just that sort to be honest. I think Besty is different because he has upped his workrate from the norm. Previously in his career he was lazy which is why he spent so long languishing in the lower reaches at Coventry. I honestly think Pardew (and Hughton) have made Best realise that he can be more if he really wants it.

Completely right, goalscoring ability is good, overall play is pretty average at the moment.

Who knows but Coleman was class last season and he never got into team,Kilbane got in ahead of him so you see what we are up against but if we don't qualify Traps contract is up so a new man would come in and I'd imagine all those young lads would get a chance Best included.Keane,Duff,Dunne,Kilbane will probably finish after this campaign so plenty of room for new lads

I reckon since he's got a foothold in the side he's ran the channels quite admirably in my opinion. i think he's picked it up a bit as Ba seems to get back to help relieve pressure on the midfield etc and he probs feels he better show his metal if he doesn't want Ba being the main man.

Agree with most people here, Beast's work rate seems to have improved greatly since he's had a run in the side. Obviously Ba's took the plaudits with his goals the last two games but Leon has done a great job and I've been really impressed with him. Didn't realise his strength but he seems to be up there now bullying defenders and holding the ball up well while still being able to fashion opportunities for himself with decent ball skills. The perfect foil for Ba who seems to enjoy dropping deep to get the ball and running at defenders.

I guess it's up to Best to prove him wrong then, win win situation for us really; Best isn't risked in an international match but plays out of skin in order to prove he is good enough. <ok>

Well I rate Capello personally but I realise many don't. Trappatoni I rate very highly. The results stack up for both. Capello has achieved roughly what I'd expect of our national side. I personally think our fans way overrate our team, on squad alone I think we're in the top 8 sides not top 3. I find it wholly unrealistic for us to believe we should be winning major tournament when we are lagging behind other nations in terms of technique. But we'll just keep burying our heads and scaking the manager, blaming all our ills on them. (not entirely true because Brooking has made some terrific progress to get our coaching standards up to scratch) Capello could have doen some things different at the world cup and all managers pick players (Barry) that you never would. But the bottom line is we qualify comprehensively for major tournaments under him. Fair enough the world cup was disappointing but its as much to do with the PL meaning players are paggered, and prima donna players. Trappatoni has overachieved with what he has at his disposal, and should not have been cheated out of qualification. He has done a sterling job. Lippi is quality too.
