http://www.london24.com/sport/footb..._s_confused_by_redknapp_s_decisions_1_3615991 Looks like we are offering him a contract and he wants to stay which is good news. Not exactly a glowing reference to the manager in that story though.
Good. I like having him in the squad. He's young, he's quick and he wanted to stay, regardless of whether we were in the championship or the EPL. Definitely one to keep.
He defended very well Saturday when he got moved to LB. Maybe because as he is quoted as saying he really had to focus on it.
I think he looks more comfortable at LB where he has more space to start his runs down the wing and get in crosses. His close ball control often is not good enough in more crowded midfield, even out wide.
For God's sake don't confuse the lad even more. He's definitely not a keeper. He's a left sided defender/wing back/winger.
I see him as a LW and an emergency LB. His attitude turn around has been great, great to see he wanted to stay no matter what.
Wingers and full backs do different training, he'd like to know where his future lies so he can concentrate on improving in certain areas. Its also pretty clear he wasn't happy on the right. To be honest, I don't think there's much communication at all, Redknapp was sat all on his own while the players were celebrating in the dressing room. Its also noticeable the massive improvement in Hoilett after he finally got to play on the right.
That may be true, but you only have to look at the LB problem this season just gone. BAE started playing well then lost interest, Hill's been used there with all his usual shortcomings in that position, and YSY should've been used earlier and more often. With all that going on, and the lack of pace down the left anyway, its of little surprise to me that Traore has been used in both positions. But, come on, how difficult can it be for a professional footballer to adapt to both, particularly in these days of overlapping wing-backs etc.? It ain't rocket science. Why should Redknapp stay in the changing rooms with the celebrating players? He's old enough to be their grandfather and no doubt can do without all that tomfoolery and being doused in shampoo. That doesn't make him a crap manager that doesn't communicate, does it? Could he play both Hoilett and Phillips on the right? Nope. I guess Hoilett's improvement coincided with Phillips' injury. I still think Hoilett's play this season has been similar to Mackie; head down and into cul-de-sacs.
I thought he did very well on Saturday when he was moved back to left back. I hope a bit was lost in translation in that interview, because if it wasn't, Armand comes across as a bit of a moaner. Once O'neill went it was all hands to the pump lad. Charlie had to play on the left FFS and did it for the team.
Its not just about turning up and playing, players do research on who they are up against, what their weaknesses are etc What if Traore is doing that only to find out her playing right wing at 2pm. Remember the staff or players don't even know what the team is until just before kick off. Hoilett moved to the right way, way after the Philips injury, in fact Traore was on the right and Hoilett on the left just a few games ago and I was moaning how stupid it was before the game even started, of course both did bugger all.
Now you're putting words into my mouth, Flyer. I appreciate that there are tactics, formations, positions, instructions when defending, instructions when attacking, different marking strategies, specific player dossiers etc. I also appreciate that all this can change in the blink of an eye as a result of injury and substitutions, whether your opponent is setup as you'd expected or not, whether you're chasing the game or protecting a lead etc. I've seen managers and coaching staff deliver individual opponent analysis to the team as a whole (as well as on a one-to-one basis) as any player should expect to come directly up against any specific opponent during the course of the game. I suspect there are moderately intelligent footballers that cope, and obviously some for whom the lack of certainty presents more of a challenge. Would that be fair?
I think what he said is perfectly reasonable, I'd expect any manager to state a players role in the team. Ie first choice LW and back up LB. Id also expect every player to be notified if they are selected at least the previous evening and not minutes before the game kicks off.
Flyer, any chance you get, throw a little mud. As Uber said, he is not the first player to have a main role, but then can be slotted in another position. Its called options, and adaptable squad, have you not heard of utility players, that play a number of roles ?? Do you hear Clint complaining when he is asked to play LB. Switching wingers has become a more modern adaptation, which numerous clubs use, and can be very effective. Change the record mate.
