With the current unrest and chants of "spend, spend, spend" I wondered what had been achieved in the transfer market in the 5 (now 6 this year) seasons since we moved to the Emirates So without counting Nasri's potential transfer Wenger has made a profit of approximately 25M (so 45M-50M if Nasri does go) but for that there is no question the quality of the squad has drastically suffered! * He has bought in 16 and sold 18 players (not counting some of the youth players like JET) * The average age of the player signed is 22 1/2 yrs old and average age of the players sold is 28 yrs old so his goal of youth has been coming true espcially if you include all of the academy players that have been promoted * Average cost per player is $6.19M vs players sold for around $6.36M Yes to qualify for the Champions League in all those seasons whilst making a profit is excellent....especially if compared to what Man City, Spurs and Liverpool , etc... have spent big to break the top four !! But the problems is more the fact as the fans paying some of the top prices in world football to watch our team we deserve to be part of this "plan" if this is the strategy the club need!! The board/Wenger should came out and say..."stick with us !! We'll be investing but at the same time recouping with player sales and in 6,7,8 years when the debt is clear we will have a model where we can spend the top money on players without harming the club or breaking the new financial rules " . We've been coned though that money is there by Wenger and the board whilst we the paying punter spend our hard earned money believing the goal is something completely different. Fans who struggle wth money and spend all they have on a season ticket deserve to know the direction of the club. They can't guarantee success but we have a right to know. This is the crux of it all ( i know it's easy to say ) but i genuinely believe i would be understanding if we were told the truth. We'd grin and bare it and push the team to keep to the goal of qualifying season after season within the top 4 hoping the long term rewards make it worthwhile. However, we still fear this is a risky strategy as success breeds success and it seems we can't continue this way forever. Cesc and Nasri leaving means RVP must be considering his option and failure to qualify for the CL this or next season could see us struggle to survive and fall further down the league. SOME CHEAP SOLUTIONS * Sign some decent coaches, there no transfer fee involved and with such a young squad we need help to develop their careers. Think of the impact a top notch defensive coach might have * Drop players who don't perform. Too many players in our squad are protected...if you play poorly you're taken off at half time or dropped next time out...Chamakh, Arshavin, Squillaci can play as bad as a player can play but someone retain their place in the team * Get the players to communicate more...apart from Jack most players to talk to one another! When Frimpong is on a yellow and seemingly about to get a red someone should be there to calm him down and help out...they don't act like a team
Isn't this a well known thing? Didn't Arsene come out a few years ago and say with the debt of the stadium etc we cant compete with chelsea etc so will be focusing more on youth until its at a more sustainable level?
Thanks for the hard graft friend Is your average buying and selling price a like for like comparison? I would have thought that the overall margin would have been bigger so if we were to sell the very same players that we bought, we would actually have received more by way of income. Agree with your suggestions Sounds like a no brainer but these things don't appear to happen too quickly
They mentioned there would still be funds available though We hear from Gazadis or Hill-Wood or Kronke that there are funds when there simply can't be based on the way things are run
I think that's more focused on how they say it, they always say things like "funds CAN BE MADE AVAILABLE" rather than "funds ARE available" Basically yea we can spend 30 mil, just it means having to sell players and/or adding more debt to the club was some blog or comments explaining it a while back, cant remember what or where tho and to be fair funds have been given and used, 15 for arshavin, 12 for nasri, 10 for TV, 10 for kos + squallaci, 11 for Gervinho, 12 for oxo etc etc
