What realistic targets would you like to see at Celtic? What players would you like to see go out on loan (for match experience or to put in the shop window)? What players do you think will attract bids? What players will go?
buy: Diawara, Forster /Gordon Out on loan. Paul george -experience. Shop windae-Patrick McCourt Bids- Jamesie, Juarez, Rasmussen Go- Darren O'Dea, Niall McGinn, Juarez, Rasmussen
Not sure what happened with Juarez but I can't see him coming back. Think he'll be sold in the summer. As for McCourt, if he doesn't want away it shows a lack of ambition. Best for all concerned if he moved on and we got a few hundred k for him.
Yeah, I think the lads from the next Gen are more likely to get a run now. Paddy has to play and he ain't gonna do that here.
i agree about paddy. he is 28, he needs to be playing week in week out. wont happen at celtic so for himself he needs to move. hopefully leeds sign him... i think we may also get a couple of bids for adam mathews, wanyamma and kayal. hopefully they are all turned down but who knows with lawell
Pud On what basis do you think that Matthews will be sold? Define a good bid for him As far as I know Celtic have never sold an outstanding prospect 20 years of age after only 6 months at the club. Certainly nothing vaguely like that, has ever happened under P. Lawell I am of the opinion that Celtic Football Club, especially Peter Lawell and Neil Lennon want to win the SPL this season. At the moment Matthews is our number 1 right back, it will take at least until the window is closed for the new Swedish Player to prove he is better. Do you think that they would be able to stand the uproar that would happen if Celtic sold one or some of their very best players and finished 2nd in the league 4 times in a row. That would be just plain crazy.
That is our business model and the stated ambition of the club. That it could come to fruition in such a brief period of time is probably an anomaly. i am critical of the club, but not this policy. It isn't an outrageous suggestion.
It's finding the right tilme to sell, we have been stung letting contracts run down before and nearly let it happen with Brown again. Cha and Wilson aren't going to attract big bids and money is needed to bring in a forward that Lennon believes will help bring the title I think Mathews has got to be an option. Plenty of alternitives and value currently high, the price would have to be right. I don't expect much activity this window, hopefully we can trim some squad players rather than first team players and add a striker with a more physical presence who can head a ball in the net.
What about Samaras? We were trying hard to get him out the door in the summer but it fell through. Would a bid of £2.5m be enough with the money being used to fund the Diawara deal? Or does his recent form mean he's too important a player to sell?
Thomas, it doesn't surprise me that you still want to drive Samaras to his next club. After all you think that anyone who attends Celtic's matches is a dick. Of course if no one attended, then dick-heads like you would not have a Celtic to talk about. Why are you softening your position on Samaras by now expecting other people to pay for the "foul".
Just the usual internet rumours linking our best players with moves away (last I heard Fulham were intrested in Matthews). As a business man, I'm sure Lawell would welcome a chance to make a large profit on a young player! I'd love to keep Matthews but could see if say, a bid of £4/5 million came in, the Celtic board being tempted! Selling Matthews would not signal the end of Celtic's title challenge! Selling Hooper, Brown or Wanyama may but not selling Matthews. As a PLC, the board would have to/be duty bound to consider any decent bid! Me, I'd only let him go for £6million plus! By the way - what happened to your old account SH?
Jay Bothroyd name keeps cropping up again , not getting a game at Qpr who are after other strikers , plus they've just got one from Man utd on loan . Bothroyd is the kind of striker we require holds the ball up well and is fast and strong
pud for personal reasons I changed from super hoops to the super hooper, by making this minute change i knew that everyone would know that i was not trying to hide my identity. Others must have been ashamed of their past and changed their name totally. I agree selling Matthews may not necessary end our SPl winning chances, however if we sell Matthews and don't win the league all hell would break-out and i am sure posters everywhere would demand the head of P. Lawell and their would be demos and threats about season ticket books not been renewed and all for delaying the sale for 6 months. That is if they wanted to sell him in the first place. As I have said before there is no precedence of Celtic selling a young star in similar circumstances. There are plenty of precedence of the media especially the Scottish media spouting these lines and gullible Celtic fans repeating unfounded rumours.
Can't see them selling Matthews for any money this season guys, as is he is one of the few who contribute to the u-21 rule for us. As for who we bring in, will have to be someone from the Scandinavian/African/South American areas, as we just can't afford to compete with Europe prices anymore.
