I think we need some optimisim as Spurs fans..something to look forward to....as it is getting to the end of the season and the Euros coming up..and our managerial fiasco....there will be alot of names flying around linked to our club...by the press or merely by the fans stating who they wish for...why not throw all them names into one thread..ill start that Pienaar fella at Everton looks like a good understudy to some of our tired and depleted players COYS!
I'll start with the obvious ones... Hugo Lloris Jan Vertonghen Rasmus Elm Junior Hoilett Loic Remy Leandro Damiao
i get a feeling we are going to dilly dally about Hoilett and try to get him cheap as and lose out on him..i think hes a guaranteed success wherever he goes...got more life in his right boot than all our team of late.
Well you know what Harry thinks, no decent players out there who can add to what we already have. And he's right. Can't think of any bargain strikers who have boosted clubs this season. Except Ba. Or Jelavic. Or Probkynak (who however you spell it at Fulham). Or Papiss Cisse.........
so what kind of strategy do you suspect in the summer Spurcat? and do you think HR will be around to be making such shots?
Ugh, a Millwall-supporting mate of mine says Harry Kane is Millwall through-and-through, and we should let him stay where he'd get games. I told him they can have Defoe...
Without going into who, at least one top class centre back, preferably two, goalkeeper, a striker who actually knows where the goal is, and how to hit it. Oh, and depending on how Rose develops, a new left back.
Don't bother writing the shipping lists out lads, you're only going to be let down! Some of the names mentioned have been realistic targets for us in the past. Things have changed and we are going to struggle to attract those players unless we see a very different Tottenham in the next 4 games.
A quick list of centre backs we're linked to: Jan Vertonghen (Ajax) Bruno Uvini (Sao Paulo) Julian Velazquez (Independiente) Ezekiel Fryers (MUPLC) Grant Hall & Lewis Dunk (Brighton) Left back: Cristian Ramirez (Independiente Jose Teran) We've got Uvini until the end of the month, whilst Ramirez recently had a ten-day trial. Frankly, we need to have a clear-out at the back, with Bassong and Gallas (maybe King) leaving and Vertonghen and Caulker coming in, with Uvini/Velazquez joining and maybe getting a season's experience on loan.
Remy is the likely candidate, whilst Leandro is an outside possibility as his agent has stopped trying to jack up his price by randomly namedropping Barca, Real or Juve every other week - which may be why they acknowledged, but didn't accept, our bid in January. Ricky Van Wolfswinkle and Moussa Sow have been linked as well - or we could go nuts and spend a huge sum on Edison Cavani. A sensible choice might be to loan out Harry Kane for the first few months of the season, but have him as an option for the second half - should we get a League One or Two side in the FA Cup he could start that (playing in the Sheringham role), and later have some appearances from the bench in games we're coasting. Oh, and just sell Obika to Yeovil already...
Just any striker would be nice. I know we usually only play one up frony but only having 3 recognised strikers on the books is madness. Although still young it would be nice to see Coulibaly in the squad. Not there to constantly play but to get some game time under his belt, test the waters and give him a taste of what he needs to do to make it at the top. Reinstating the reserves would be a start. Fine, we don't have to take it seriously but have it there to keep the fringe players fit and ready to come in when needed. Oh and a right midfielder (or Townsend back). And another right back (young 'un for competiton). And another centre back along with Caulker. It's not much to ask for really.
We've got plenty of right backs to spare - Naughton will be one option (for both right and left back), Adam Smith and Nathan Byrne are on the books, and we might see sense and hold onto Corluka. Townsend may well be in the squad next season (albeit mainly down to Bentley leaving and Gio likely doing the same) - although we may revisit our January interest in Milos Krasic, with Junior Hoilett another possibility, as is Raheem Stirling. The amount of central midfielders we're linked to is great news for papers wanting to use the words "Modric" and "replace", on the other hand: Rasmus Elm (AZ) Ever Banega (Valencia) Hernanes (Lazio) Ganso (Santos) Casemiro (Sao Paolo) Seriously, our South American scout must be doing overtime!
On the topic of right backs, we will probably see Kyle Naughton back at the lane next year, he seems to have done a decent job with Norwich this year and would prove a capable understudy to the other Kyle. We've missed Dawson massively this year and hopefully he will be back to fitness next season. Caulker has had a great season with Swansea and ought to be pushing for a place in the match day squad at least next year. I think the club should seriously consider the futures of King and Gallas over the summer, I expect two of King, Gallas, Nelsen and Bassong to leave/retire at the end of the season. Verthongen would be an enormous coup in this department. The position of right-wing needs to be reinforced, when Lennon has been injured this year we have looked totally lost down that side. Bring in some genuine competition for Aaron, who really ought to have progressed more by this stage in his career. The hardest and yet most important area we will need to look at over the summer is up-front. Adebayor looks certain to disappear off the radar and Saha and Defoe frankly are not good enough to match our ambitions. Anything less than two quality new strikers this summer ought to be deemed a failure. Then there's the usual list of dead wood which we struggle to ship off every year: Bentley, Jenas, Giovani, Corluka, Pienaar, Bassong, Khumalo, Nelsen. The goalkeeping situation is also going to need looking at; I would love to see us make a move for Vorm, though I'm still not convinced that Gomes doesn't have a role to play. I make that five/six players that need to be brought in.
WE havent had Pienaar that long and he is good enough for us....its poor management to purchase him then blame him for not fitting into the system...we knew what game Pienaar played on the pitch..and a better tactcian would use him better...he has pace and goals in him.
Lets see if we have any Euro football at all to offer any would be signings, before we start the annual bout of ludicrous dreaming.
I'd prefer Townsend - we'd get some cash for Bentley (probably not the £15m we paid for him), plus Townsend will reduce our wage bill.
