Good morning all, Been a while so I thought it would be good to catch up. After a brilliant Euro's it is back to trawling the internet day in day out looking for the slightest hint we may be signing a new player. Well done to both Poland and Ukraine for putting on a great tournament, one of the most enjoyable I have witnessed for a long tme, Spain were truly unbelievable in the final, some of the best football I have sen played. But i digress. So 1 week in and we have signed 2 players with international pedigree and spent no money, one a striker and one a right back ( both positons we needed ). Pretty good business by Big Mart and the clubs management team. They are both on short term contracts as well so if they do not adapt to life in the premniership then no big loss. Must admit do not know much about Reither at right back, although it seems he got a few caps for Germany in 2010. From what I have read the cologne fans have not taken to him and hopefully Jol has got a player looking to reignite his footballing career. Petric, though is a name all Fulham fans will know. His free kick for Hamburg against us was superb. I emember him as being a tricky striker who drops off into space and makes himself awkward to mark. 44 caps for his country, Croatia, and 12 international goals, as well as being a goal every 3 games makes him a real coup for us. He may not get us 20 goals in a season but on a free is a serious find. Jol seems to want a quick right winger. Elia does not seem to want to play for us, so forget him. Would be interested to see Ryan Williams get a chance in some friendlies, he came from Pompey with some first team experience and some good ability. We desperately need another centre midfielder, although I suspect that Dembele will take over from Murph's and Diarra will play next to him, that said cover at east the very least is needed. A couple of strikers, one on a permanent and another on loan would be great. With the likes Trotta chomping at the bit to play first team football, we have to leave the door open for him. As so the case for Frei and Kaca. With the likes of Kasami and Gecov and Ruiz to come as well, I can us making a few astute signings but not too many. MAF seems to want to keep a lid on getting wildly into debt, so breaking even will be important for him. COYW
Good summary, Froggy. I'd go along with most of that analysis. It's interesting that Jol seems to want a right winger. He's been making all the right noises for giving Ruiz a run in the team, and I was expecting him to play there. If Ruiz slots in elsewhere (off the main striker?), Duff still has plenty to offer on the right wing. It's one position that I wouldn't have expected us to be looking for someone.
