It was a clerical error, so I expect it to happen in the summer at roughly the same agreement as was already made.
Unless either side starts to be awkward about it, in which case all future dealings would be jeopardised - which I don't see as being helpful to either.
Some sports news outlets saying that we can sign a pre-contract agreement with him and get him on a free in the summer.

I don't know how contracts work for 19 year olds who are out of contract but can the above be a possible option, does anyone know?

Re Diaz.

Has klopp ever gushed over a new signing like this before?

He gushes over everyone. He even gushes over Origi. He just likes buttering people up who play for him so that they let him hug them more often.

Seriously though, I think gushing over players and building up their self belief is all part of his managerial style.

You are left with the abiding impression though - why do Liverpool always leave everything until the last second on Jan transfer day? Are they on some sort of retainer from Jim White to try and make the show more exciting?

Because no one wants to sell good players mid campaign and so prices are higher and Liverpool doesn't pay over the odds. It's easier to get a player for the right price in summer. In January you have to bargain and deal until the last minute.

Technically in England you can only sign a pre-contract with out of contract player in the final month so can’t do it now.

However, foreign clubs can speak to him now, and get something signed now. And we could speak to mbappe and get him signed if we wanted.

And we would still have to pay a fee to Fulham for his development. Either we agree a fee or it's set by a Tribunal, like with Elliot. European clubs wouldn't pay the fee.

The last minute deal that wasn't, overshadowed the very good signing that we did make. I'm very happy with Diaz, hope he settles in well and am excited to watch him in action in a red shirt.

It was absolutely a necessary signing for long term health of club.

Oh yeah. Blimey that feels like ages ago.

We got ****ed over in the Ings deal. They took months to make a decision and in the mean time he'd made his international debut. We expected to have to pay £3m-£4m and they set it £8m stating here was an international <doh>

Although you wouldn't think so, judging by the comments of some fans - we have made steady progress towards the future in recent years with a few mostly well-judged transfers of established players and the introduction of promising young talent.
I feel that the club is in a much better state than it has been for decades - from the top-down. My biggest fear is whether or not we can maintain the continuity after Klopp leaves.
