we know at least 3 players turned LFC down last summer.
Ousmane Dembélé, Raphaël Guerreiro, Emre Mor... they ALL went to dortmund. every one.

So its not as easy as you make out.

BTW dortmund spent a lotal of about 30million pounds on them..

if you can't get them you can't get them so bigging deeper down there will only be 5/6 players a year thats really fitting this young player model and if they all go elsewhere? fine... ok..

Got to agree with MITO here, how are you comparing by young hidden gems and then mentioning city buying young players at STUPID prices.

Again for every cheap young and up coming player with potential that makes it, you are getting a lot of **** in there too.

Half your team is a great example to that:

- Moreno, cheap and upcoming so far a failure
- Markovic, major flop
- Can, solid player in the team, not a world beater and certainly not at the level of title challenger (yet)
- Alberto, gone
- Firmino, has been pretty hit and miss - lacking the consistency at the moment to be a great player and he was bought in the expensive category. He could go onto be world class
- Gomez, has time but so far been unfortunate with injuries so miss
- Grujic, not been given an opportunity yet plus injured
- Origi, has time but not fulfilled potential yet
- illori, gone
- Borini, gone
- Coates, gone
- Allen, gone

The only gems bought before their cost rocketed because of performances have been countinho, suarez and sturridge (unfortunately he's always injured).

Everyone else that has been bought has been of the same level and not gone onto the next level. Out of this list, there has definitely been some in there that Jimmy would have recommended as decent buys and taking to the next level. Off the top of my head it would be Origi, Firmino, Markovic, Moreno, Can and maybe Coates. Grujic and Illori i think he would have been happy as prospects.

It's about balance mate. A club with aspirations has to buy some 'finished articles' proven top notch players in their prime.

But that needs to be balanced off with buying younger talents who you can develop and will therefore hopefully dramatically increase in value.

The point is, apart from Sane who looks a real gem, Jesus who has looked good but been in the league for 2 games and Sterling who they massively overpaid for and is probably worth around 20 million and Stones who is the worse defender i've ever seen... also followed by the following flops who were young and turfed aside like:

Mangala - 40m
Nastasic - 12m
Roberts - 11m
Balotelli - 24.5m

Alongisde sterling and stones if you got any one of those 6 you'd be spitting feathers about why you are wasting so much on youth who have not achieved anything.

Draxler i can agree with you, guys won trophies and was a key part of the German team. Any of those above at them prices and you could end up with Markovic and you wasting all your money

Price. Why buy John smith from Barnsley for £10m after a handful of games in division 2 when you could buy Johnny Smithino from Spanish team in top division for same amount who has played 50 odd games.

Plus teams are under much more pressure to stay in league that need instant results so rather buy finished product rather than try develop an 18 year old.

But you can spend £100m on potential when they aren't coming in to be the star of the team and first team right away. Those 3 players had De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero ahead of them when they signed. The 3 we signed for same amount had to be yeah for first team then because we don't have the same strength in the first team.

I get the point though, which is why I mentioned balance, you can't rely on a strategy of buying solely those sorts of player, you need to take proven players that can go straight into the first team. Albeit how many players are signed these days from abroad in the £5-10m bracket that you barely see get a game?

True - but as MITO says, every transfer is a risk.

We've been buying from mid table PL clubs recently and have spent large sums on experienced, PL proven players. Majority have been flops.

Now I'm not saying we should be spending £20-30m on youngsters every time. The whole point of buying youth is to buy them before they become a big name to avoid big fees.

But youngsters are getting far more exposure and experience, especially in the BuLi. With such exposure and limelight, the valuations increase. So there's even more pressure to buy them earlier.
