What are you basing this on? All I've read is that Sociedad are making it difficult for him. I'm not sure what I think of such moves, if a player wants to leave and the club stands in his way, that would surely sour relations between them.
if the release clause is met can't see how they make it difficult for him apart from persuade him to stay on an improved contract . If the release clause isn't triggered that suggests he doesn't really want to come to us .
Yeah being reported deal is off. Player wants to remain there. Annoying if so, but what can you do. He’s rejected plenty clubs before so was always risky.
It's not a release clause, apparently, but a buy-out clause - meaning the player has to stump up the cash to buy out his contract. I've only just been made aware that there is a distinction. One ramification seems to be that if we then pay him the money, that is seen as taxable income for him so in order to fully compensate him we would have to pay even more. Whether or not this can be sorted out within his contract I've no idea.
Now seeing more reports about the Valencia keeper. £30m with few loans out. Wouldn’t be against it but ideally in addition to a new midfielder and not as our ownly signing this window.
We are overstocked in MF jmo but would prefer an upgrade on the DM / 6 options we presently have so lets hope there were other targets or we need Gravenberch , Jones , Bajcetic and Endo to at least cope .
That deal smacks of them knowing alisson intends to be off or worse someone is playing games at board room level rather than focusing on doing transfers thst are actually needed. If reports are accurate that we wont now buy a midfielder for 6 then we've blown it massively as it's obvious to everyone we need one and that slot doesn't fancy the players he has in the role. Signing an expensive and not needed keeper and not addressing the obvious issues we have and will have shortly is a bad way to start out this new era.
