Over the last year or two it has become more and more apparent that there is a problem with completing transfers at Arsenal. We now have another long term target saying that he prefers another club, according to the BBC gossip page Jovetic wants to go to Juve. From stuff I've read we have had talks with him, last year Mata said he joined Chelsea because they showed more desire to sign him than Arsenal and offered a better chance of trophies and over the last couple of years there have been various stories that we didnt complete transfers because we took too long and the window closed. I seems clear to me that the problem is not Wenger wanting to spend or attracting players. The problem is the club negotiating. I think the problem is Gazidis and we could really use David Dein back in that role as he never seemed to have these problems. Do you think this is the issue or if not what is?
Is this just not here say, I don't recall any of this being verified about mata, I remember wenger saying that they would not be signing mata, this was a good bit before he joined Chelsea, therefore there was clearly some other issue surrounding mata. Dont just believe what people tell you.
Everything we read is just gossip & rumour until a transfer actually happens. All this weekend there have been rumours about Higuain definately joining Arsenal now the rumour is he could be going to Juve. The truth is none of us knows what is happening regarding transfer targets and none of us knows about transfer fees paid or offered.
Window is not open. Players and Managers are on International Duty or vacation. Some clubs (Real Madrid) don't even have a manager. Clubs are offloading players and dealing with players that are out of contract right now. Another 20 days before anything will happen except rumours.
It is surely going to be a crazy Summer. The transfer window is not even open yet and Arsenal fans are getting anxious. (myself included -I lierally check Twitter and 'newsnow' 5 x a day.) Best to remain 'positive' at this stage and give the manager and board a chance to back up their words.
The reason I posted this is I noticed couple of comments a few years ago and so have been very conscious of comments from our targets for a while now. It tends to be a few words here, a comment there but builds up to indicate that this is the case. The Mata comment I saw him say in an interview, he was asked why he chose Chelsea and answered "They showed more desire to sign me than Arsenal". That's 8 very significant words. Jovetic is reported as saying he now prefers someone else after the deal being reported as all but done earlier in the season (like Pod last year was done) and there have been several other comments I have picked up on over the last couple of years as well. Keep your eyes and ears open over the next few months and I bet you will come to the same conclusion as I already have.
When was there ever a quote from Jovetic saying he wanted to join Arsenal. When have Arsenal ever been quoted as saying they were after Jovetic.?
This is the closest I can see him saying that: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...purs-and-Arsenal-before-choosing-Chelsea.html, but I have never been able to find where this often quoted "desire" was reported. I have only ever seen it in forums. Here he also says that Torres played a big part in the transfer http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/2430847. In the end Chelsea bid 23.5M and Arsenal had offered 17M. The Mata transfer took place before Cesc was sold.
Wenger and Dick Law do the negotiating, too. Unfair to place all the blame at Ivan. That being said I don't believe Jovetic is high up on our shopping list and I hope that is the case. I have been saying for months he is not the type of player we need.
OK, looks like my assumption could have been wrong, but I definitely saw Mata say that. And as for the comment the window isn't open yet... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/transfers/
The only transfer problems at Arsenal recently have been all of the dodgy transfer links that Cym has been posting from the likes of the Daily Star . .
