Despite the media continuing the furore of speculation about Everton selling Leighton Baines to Manchester United and replacing him with Kieran Richardson, the club says no offers have been made or received.

Local media in the North East said last night that Everton had made a formal approach for Richardson, but sources on Merseyside say that simply is not the case.

And likewise with Baines. The media – led by football agent shareholding Alan Nixon – persist that Manchester United have made an approach for the England left back, but Everton say there has been no contact from the Old Trafford club.

However, many Evertonians accept that an approach for Baines is in the post, but those same fans also hope he isn’t replaced by another former United man in Richardson. Any offer for Baines will need to be well above and beyond the £12m quoted to appease any Everton fan if he does leave.
