Just because a paper says £20m doesn't necessarily mean he'll have £20m. Even if they got the figure from a 'source', it could be a ploy to stop us getting milked for fees because of us being known to have lots of money to spend.

good. it would be really irresponsible to use it all at once and all on transfers

I said all along if we spent a net £20m I'd be satisfied.

There's some quotes/interview with Pardew in there, I'm not sure if it's 'a source' or if he has told the press..

No, it says in the article that Ashley is pocketing the other 15m because of the money he's already put into the club

Can kind of see the logic, but doubt we'll be getting any stars for £5m each now. Lucky to get Tiote and HBA on the cheap though so I guess there's still some hope.

It says the money will be diverted to the wage bill, we already knew that this would happen.

25mill would have been nice but hey ho.

By the way, this may not mean that we'll JUST get 20mill. The article said 20mill of 'the Carroll money', but that may be alongside our usual transfer budget (whatever they've decided). I highly doubt that Ashley has completely scrapped any normal transfer budget in place of this Carroll money.

Ah yeah fair enough I misread it <doh>
But 5m for players doesn't seem a lot, consdering there was talk of Gervihno for 10-15m

Yeah agree with this... Although it's all speculation still. MA has never said anything about how he runs this club so I can't suddenly see him coming out and explaining our summer transfer plans. I think a lot of the stories going on in the media are based on Pardew's opinion on how much he thinks he's getting to spend.

This, I didn't expect any more than £20mil to spend from the Carroll deal but if we do sell in the summer I'd expect that figure to rise. Especially if we get the supposed £10mil-£15mil for Jose.

    That is true.

However, I think Ashley and Lambsarse would have set out forecast transfer budgets for the next few years, so perhaps 20mill of the Carroll money has been added to what we had planned.

Unless of course it already has, but that money was used up on Ben Arfa.

We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

To be fair, none of us here expected £35m, Ashley had said its going towards wages etc as well. We have £20m plus anything we make from sales (wont be much, but the likes of Smith will free up wages etc so need to go).

£20m could get us Gameiro, Ba & Samba if West Ham & Blackburn go down. <ok>

Putting some of it into the club rather than the squad could help aswell

states that it's 20m on transfer, the rest on wages.
that's what we all thought right? that's a fair amount. nothing to be downhearted about!

besides, it's only a newspaper! what do they know!

Good news then, I'd be over the moon if we spent 20m on transfer fees this summer
