There is growing speculation that we are in the midst of takeover discussions.

The latest round of takeover rumours suggest things are progressing rapidly and that Leeds United’s failure to sign anyone since the arrival of Jason Pearce is due to a transfer embargo placed on Neil Warnock whilst takeover talks are ongoing.

It’s easy to be dismissive of such rumours but Ken Bates’ recent radio silence does make you wonder?

An “I’ll believe it when I see it” reaction on Twitter drew quite a few responses, many of which –including The Square Ball – are convinced there’s something in this particular rumour.
I personally think there have always been people willing to buy Leeds United, but Ken Bates has been reluctant to sell. If that’s changed and he has put the club on the market, then I have no doubts whatsoever that LUFC would attract numerous interested parties.

Lets not forget that the Mayalsians that bought Cardiff, we after Leeds first, but Bates refused to sell.....

I have to admit I have no idea what the "signs" are for an impending takeover, but I really hope these are those signs. If we have done enough to get rid of the old ****er, I will be really happy and looking to possibly renew my season ticket once he is out of here.

I will believe the takeover rumour when it is officially announced, until then, it appears to me that we have not got the appropriate funds to pay for new players, as the vast majority of money is pumped into current salaries and new building works at Elland Road. It may be that by late June or early July, the funds are available, but that will only be after a player sale of considerable amounts.

Personally I don't care if it's Satan himself doing the takeover. Still better than bates ...

It may be the cynic in me, but I can't see bates ****ing off quietly. If he does sell, there will be some sting in the tail down the line. Would he be happy to sell to another ****er like himself or ensure a new owner would have the interests of the club at heart. Personally, I'd be inclined to go for the as big a ****er as himself theory. Kind of a Craig Whyte scenario at Rangers. They couldn't wait to get him in and just look at the baggage he brought with him

How about the rumour is put out by Bates, Harvey, et al, to take the heat off and distract from their failure to provide funds to sign Ward?

I will welcome it if the buyer is from these shores. I don't want Asian buyers. They are dodgy and lack understanding of football culture of the UK.

"We were in the process of a takeover which is why we couldn't sign anyone but it fell through at the last second", said bates on the last day of the transfer window, "Also, we've had an offer accepted for Snodgrass after he begged us to sell him because he was offered £100 000 a week from Norwich City and their millions. Greedy bastard. We've had to sell McCormack to make up for the piss poor fee we got for Snodgrass and now we've no time to get replacements. But don't worry, we'll spend all that money on super expensive super talented loan players in the loan market! They cost a lot of money, for all the doubters out there. When we get a promotion winning squad of loan players and we're clear by 6 points in November then all the doubters will be proven wrong just in time for season ticket renewals in December. There's a discount of £5 if you renew for the 14/15 season as well as the 13/14 season. Also Howard's Restaurant are doing a celebratory 4 course meal in November to celebrate how brilliant I am, all for the low price of £99.95 per head with children at a discounted £84.95 per head. The main course is a succulent leg of chicken in my own secret blend of herbs and spices."

    Bate's hasn't finished with us yet :(

Too much more planned building work for him to be going anywhere yet.

But there's the possibility something is amiss with Bates himself. Whether it's health or business related he might be looking to cash in now (here's hoping).

Not at all young Simon. I am in fact in quite rude health. I've just been away from home while the Monaco Grand Prix was on. I rent my flat out to a couple of oligarchs every year over race weekend.

Can't tell you anything about any potential investment at this stage, although I did think the chap above who thought I was setting up a smokescreen for the lack of investment was being both remarkably uncharitable and incredibly perceptive... <whistle>
