Why is it not before the season kicks off? We have 6 games in August and the make up of the squad is likely to be very different by the time September 1st comes around. What is the logic behind it? Should the window not open earlier than July 1st and then close earlier?
There are many illogical things in the world of football. I suppose it makes the market rotate a lot better as clubs find themselves desperate after a few games. It increases the level of turnaround in football.
Managers don't really know if their chosen 11 will gel for a few matches into the season at least. I'm not sure that you can gauge fitness and chemistry from these pre-season run-outs. It gives the Manager some time to evaluate, reflect and then panic buy.
This same question is always asked about this time every single year. You'd think we'd be used to it by now!
