Have to say, don’t think Wycombe will be up there at end of season. Rotherham, Portsmouth and Sunderland are the 3 teams I’m most worried about

A good win today on a difficult playing surface.

First half from us was poor. Quite a few misplaced passes and not enough attacking threat, we struggled to make anything happen. Tranmere played better than us on their own turf (I say that loosely as there wasn't much grass to be seen) and scored an easy header from a good free kick delivered by Caprice, who played well all game. On the balance of play and chances created it was probably about right that Tranmere went in at half time one goal up.

Second half was a lot more positive from us, with Downes being the catalyst for some good moves and the scorer of a solid header from a Garbutt cross. The introduction of Bishop for Judge gave us a boost as Teddy carried the ball forwards constantly and we really started to put Tranmere under pressure. Norwood came on for Keane, who didn't have his best game today, and that also added something different up front. We got the winning goal as Norwood played a ball over the top to Jackson, who chipped the onrushing 'keeper into an empty net. Cue scenes of celebration from the away supporters behind the goal, with many jumping the advertising boards in joy. We managed to see the game out for a deserved win, but with Rotherham and Wycombe also both winning, the result didn't take us back into the automatic spots.

Norris - another good game from Will, whether you're in favour of Holy or Norris they both seem about as good as each other and at least Lambert is sticking with one choice now instead of continually swapping them about.
Woolfenden - more great work from Luke. Played his part in attack and defence, there is no doubt that he will get poached by a prem team at some point.
Wilson - no nonsense defending at the heart of the back line, this looks to be the best position for him. Not really tasked with bringing the ball forward or doing anything fancy he just does the basics well. Having said that, he did run forward with the ball at one point with a positive run into midfield.
Chambers - held his own against Tranmere's big striker and got involved in attack when the chance to come forward was there. Seems to be playing well in a back three where he can combine defending with overlapping full back play.
Garbutt - more good work down the left from Luke, who played well up against Caprice from Tranmere. A couple of corners that went to the first man but also some good deliveries.
Huws - getting stronger and more influential in the middle. His partnership with Downes is growing to the point where I think this is our first choice now. Lambert had already laid the groundwork for this with his 'Skuse can't go on forever' comments of a few weeks back.
Downes - man of the match again easily. Flynn is just getting better which each game. I can't say it enough, the way he uses his body to shield the ball and create space is something you don't see from many footballers. He is now starting to combine his defensive work with box to box running and late arrivals in the penalty area, as shown today with the headed equalizer.
Edwards - not bad from Gwion but I think we will be an even better team when KVY is playing in that role.
Judge - played well enough without really dictating the tempo. Downes was more influential for us today than Alan, as was Bishop when he came on. I think Bishop should be first choice in the #10 spot.
Jackson - didn't really get going in the first half but had a great second period. The pitch certainly didn't help Jackson carry the ball at pace but his controlled chip for the goal was well taken.
Keane - got into some good positions but lost the ball frequently and couldn't quite make the right pass when in the final third. He did make good contact on an overhead kick but it was straight at the 'keeper and easily saved, nice technique though.

Bishop - made a big difference when brought on for Judge. We don't have anybody else in the team, except maybe KVY, that runs and jinks with the ball like Teddy does and he is a joy to watch. He can also tackle. He had a positive impact on the game at a time when some fresh impetus was needed.
Norwood - didn't have too much to work with in the short time he was on the field. Good spot and nice execution of the pass that put Kayden through on goal.
Skuse - is going to be the 15 minutes to close out a game sub now.

All in all, a welcome win on a difficult pitch. We didn't play well first half but the second half we were dominant and ran out deserved winners. Special mention to Downes and Bishop who were both fantastic today.

There’s only room for 20 clubs in any given season in the top flight and 30-40 sides with stature plus always a few upstarts like Wimbledon, Hull, Bournemouth, Swansea etc. who get a taste of the action. There are only really Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Villa who will nearly always be there and the rest is fluid.

Our temporary foray into League One doesn’t diminish that, as long as it doesn’t go on for too long. Wasn’t long ago that Sheffield United were in our position.
