You know I have been going off on one about the academy and training facilities since the old 606 days, the club has signed a joint ownership deal with the University for an 8 pitch complex in fairwood. With the Landore site as well things are finally on the move for our club. I am delighted http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/fairwood-development-261633.aspx
About time too. Glad when Landore is up and running, then Fairwood to follow. Great time to be a Jack.
@PGF Fairwood used to have pretty good drainage when I used to play there as a kid (20+ years ago). Much better than Morriston and it's banana pitch. or are you talking about Landore?
@neveroffside yeah played there quite a few times as a kid for Kingsbridge. It was abysmal. You couldn't pass it cos it would get stuck in the mud or massive puddles. Saying that as a kid we were more long ball officianados.
RTB ( Landore ) was one of the finest pitches in Swansea (played on it and later carried the magic sponge on ) , and had been used for an number of Local cup finals .looking at the ongoing works there the foundations and few courses of blocks have been built which is ongoing but the striking thing is the area designated for the playing surfaces for the Academy, the area looks like no major work has been carried out and considering it's expected to be up and running in September I can only imagine that it is the finished article (it does look good),
The RTB has one of the best surfaces in the Swansea league, played there may times. Played there one Sunday and churned the pitch up, groundsman was not pleased at all. Took weeks for the pitch to recover.
I remember playing on it and winning in the West Glamorgan Primary/Junior School cup final. It was a glorious pitch suitable for our glorious victory
Most of the local parks pitches have been closed off for a complete seasons at some point due to the theft of copper from the changing rooms ,thousands of pounds worth of damage for a couple of bob .sad days indeed no wonder the Senior League is dying
