The latest is that Town are signing Freddie Sears from Colchester and he is at Playford Road today to finalise terms! Sears has scored 14 goals for the Us and will be added to the squad for the Millwall game tomorrow! http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/26617/blues-in-for-sears Fook me Mick doesn't hang around does he!
Interesting signing, but another player who has a point to prove! apparently we also after Billy Sharp and Lewis Price could return to cover as goalie!
Okay, we'll see. Went over to the Colchester board to find out about Sears and, to quote Marty DiBergi, I got more... a whole lot more. Seriously, it's comedy gold down there.
This kid has scored 14 Goals this season in a struggling team and the most important thing is that he has pace which is what we are badly in need of and for just over £100k this could be yet another steal. His name has never been mentioned as being linked with us and it is just so typical of Mick to just bring someone in without any fuss or hype! Terry will work wonders with him I'm sure. If this does happen today then Welcome aboard Freddie!
This is the type of signing I wished we would make, and thankfully it seems to be going ahead. I'm sure some of you have been sicked and tired of hearing me prattle on about the need for strength in-depth and pace in the attacking third, well Freddie Sears provides this. He's scored 14 goals for a struggling Colchester side this season and he's a quick player who has a point to prove. Okay, so maybe he's not an immediate first team starter, what with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick ahead of him in the pecking order, but he is exactly the type of player we need at the club, in my opinion. With his contract up this summer, I'm guessing it wasn't a massive fee either. Still, kudos to the board for financing this deal. Hopefully we can push on now and add a winger and perhaps a bit of cover at the back.
Billy Sharp is an interesting one. For me, he would've been a better signing two odd years ago, when he was in prolific form. Arguably he hasn't had many chances at Leeds, and it's not looking to be the ideal working environment over there, so we could ignore his recent poor form in front of goal. If anything, players that join here usually play some of their best football under McCarthy, Terry Connor, and the coaching staff.
That's because we have a proper football Manager in charge and is someone for who players want to play for.
Billy Sharp will work his socks off, just like Shane Long the other night, would be a fantastic signing and would give us real depth in our attacking department. with Bru really impressing on Wednesday he could be what we need to unlock defences with an eye for the sublime pass. I feel the gloom could be lifting from the other night!
This fills me with dread, remember the last striker we signed from Col Who that was scoring lots if goals!!! Nice to see someone with a bit of pace and NOT Irish!! Would like to see Billy here too, think he just needs to kick start career again and once he gets going, the goals will fly in!!
Don't know too much about the lad but seems like a good bit of business to me, good age, in good form and won't have to move. Was very highly rated if I remember as a youngster and somewhat went off the radar, I always thought he used to play on the wing though. Will be interesting to see whether Mick just see's him as an impact player as he's not the tallest. I'd say unless Hunt and Bajner amount to anything we still need 1 more forward with a big of a physical presence if Murphy gets injured
Fingers crossed, form is temp but class is permanent!! He just needs a decent run and to be loved, we are ideal for him at this stage in his career!! Look at Torres, now he is back at AM hr is scoring again!!
