With Edwards probably not starting tomorrows game, we will see who MM thinks is captain material. For me this season Edwards will be playing fewer games as while he has got a good engine, he is getting on... I have seen the TWTD have predicted that Chambers will be captain, while this is not a bad shout I would much rather it be young Tommy. I would like to see Edwards remain club captain this season, but with Tommy taking the armband when Carlos is not on the pitch. I really think we have a great captain in the making in Tommy Smith.
I agree Tommy is a great captain in the making, but 'in the making' being the key point. Lets face it his only consistent spell in the team was the 2nd half of last season, where he was superb. I'd say definitely in the future but at the moment let him get on and enjoy his football next season without having the extra responsibility. Give it to Chambers at the moment. I hope Chambers has the armband for most of the season because that means Edwards won't be in the team. I don't dislike the guy but he's just doesn't do enough in an attacking sense on the wing. Crazy really considering how good he was attacking from the full back position!!
Tommy for certain 2014/2015 season. Chambers is a top shout unless MM goes with an experienced campaigner. Skuse maybe or murphy. I know it's cliched but lets have 11 leaders on the pitch.
I think that's a bit harsh. Edwards has not set the world alight, but he is solid and works hard. Also he did score a couple of important goals last season. I think he is a good role model for the younger players and therefore would like to see him remain club Captian this year. Although I don't think he's up for being a nailed on starter anymore
I don't think it's harsh at all given what he is capable of. We saw how good he was going forward from full pack, he was outpacing people who were nearly half his age and doing so for 90 minutes which was incredible, he was taking on players putting in good crosses but whenever he's played on the wing under both Mick and Keane he's looked pedestrian and given the ability he clearly has should be doing alot better. I thought Martin got the lions share of the abuse last season, but I thought Edwards was worse, at least Martin looked like he was going to do something (even if everytime time he never did) Edwards didn't even look like he was going to do something. He has kept himself in incredible shape though.
