'Veteran' Mark Cavendish records his 2nd Stage win of this year's Tour, at 36 years old he just shouldn't be out-sprinting the young guns. Now just 2 stage wins short of the legendary Eddy Merckx all time record of 34 stage wins, who would bet against him?...
Cav is a legend, away from the tour for 5 years only got a spot because Sam Bennett was injured, very late selection but was fully race prepared,he has at least another 5 chances to beat the great Eddy Merckx record of 34 stage wins
Yesterday Cav declared before the stage that after the double ascent of the Ventoux he wouldn't challenge and would ride with the peleton With Sagan withdrawing, the German lad Pollit put in a big move to take the stage Still plenty of opportunities for Cav to take Merckx record, maybe a final bow on the Champs D'Elysee? Good tour this year, really tough and even Pogacar looks knackered and vunerable
It would be great...and will mean my wife can keep up her tradition of leaving little Union Jack flags on all her colleagues' desks the Monday morning after the Tour de France finishes. Her colleagues (all French) never seem to find it as funny as we do.
Stage 13 is warming up nicely for Cav to equal the record 11.5k to go,the peloton is all together, this has a Cavendish stage win written all over it.
The man is a sprinting animal, cant see anyone taking the green Jersey off him, how great it would be if he wins the run in to Paris
Awesome win again, almost taken away by his lead out man going too fast! Love to see him win in Paris, only doubt…. surviving the Pyranees if he’s already on the limit! Big ask…Go Cav.
At his age this is sensational riding. A win in Paris to take Merckx's record would be the icing on the cake...
He has a very recognisable profile when the sprint is viewed from the front. The green jersey helps too of course! I'd also love to see him win the Paris stage but he needs to beat Merckx' record before that.
