Agreed, and Wenger must be bitterly regretting not pushing the boat out for him, especially after Wilshere's injury.
I was watching Motd on saturday without knowing the results. When United match came on, the fist serious chance came for Tottenham, when Morgan was caught in possession. I was instantly worried, thinking 'please don't let him be at fault for the goal in his first match' . What can I say, I still support him.
I think he'll be great at United. I also think Wenger doesn't regret it - he has had months and years to regret it, as it was obvious he could have bought him at any point had he so wanted. He was first in the queue and decided not to take the opportunity, for which you can only respect him. He certainly knows what he wants, and isn't swayed by public opinion or hype. There is no manager in the country who is so immune to hype, and has such a clear idea of what his team needs. They are definitely the most lean, efficient squad in the league by a long way. Absolutely no fat in that squad, no matter how frustrating that is for fans. Unlike Man U, who just have panic buys littered throughout, hoping something is going to stick. I laughed today at the Guardian headline: 'Manchester United may look to invest after listless win over Tottenham'. Yes, because they have been so spartan for so long now - time to reward their tired old team.
He has no idea what his team needs, he thinks he does, more show ponies, but what he needs is a big CM who'll throw himself about a bit like Viera. with the exception of Sanchez they are a team of eunuchs. I wouldn't be surprised if Man Utd fail to make 4th tbh, I've never rated Van Gaal, how many midfielders has he bought, and yet he complains of a lack of width and pace, he's got one striker and I'm not sure they have any actual defenders
I think he thinks he does have the CM he needs. People say you can't argue with his league positions, and to an extent that's true; but if he sorted out the sort of results they get at certain key points in the season (start, and two-thirds in), they'd have won the league at least a couple of times in the last decade. Definitely no manager more frustrating.
