After the euphoria if the Boro result (barring the second half performance) we're back to saying things just don't look right at club. The performance by the team and management against a very poor Huddersfield was abject. I personally believe the damage was done before we kicked off and it got no better after we did. I've mentioned before that Morison's public persona is not for me and I'm beginning to think his managerial skills are spiralling downwards to join his personality. OK, he's assembled a mixture of loan and lower league players with very little money that needs time, but how long before things turn really bad. The last thing we need is to have to start looking for another Warnock/McCarthy type in an attempt to save our skins. I don't want to hark back to previously discussed personal opinions of the bloke's media style - it is what it is, but on pure footballing grounds and player management skills, how much time should Morison be given?
He needs to see the season out. There was a clamour for a change in style and this is the result. Maybe the overhaul will have to continue in L1. The squad is poor. I dont think a change of manager makes a difference. Hes created this squad and style. He said no excuses so leave him to it.
I can't believe anyone would contemplate relegation to League 1 as an acceptable outcome to the season, and I don't think Tan and the club would either. Solksjaer got 8 games at the start of a Championship season and Trollope got 11 I think - I don't see why the options shouldn't be explored. Slade and Warnock both kept us up but I agree at the expense of Dinosaur football for a while. Not suggesting a kneejerk reaction this early but surely there's another way?
I really dont think theres much you can do with this squad. Morisons created it. Let him get on with. I do think the likely outcome is relegation.
If we had won yesterday and the performance wasn't so abject would we have this discussion today? I guess most of us were expecting a similar starting eleven and tactics as the Boro game. It looks like Harris wasn't 100% fit to start but then to play Nkounkou and Philogene on the left flank left us weak on that side. Ralls being injured didn't help either so the two changes were effectively forced on us. SM seems to lack some consistency in selection and tactics and he needs to deal with that. He now has the international break, minus 5 players, to get everyone back on track plus the return of Adams, Etete and Davies. Barring injuries to those on international duty, apart from Collins, he should have a full squad for October. With 6 or 7 games in the month it will be make or break. If we are still in or close to the soft and smellies by 1/11 then, once again, the board will need to review their options before we are too far into the season and if they make a change any new guy will have time to prepare for the January window. Why is it whenever we give a short term manager a longer deal things go nipples skywards?
Maybe there is and maybe we're on our way to finding it. Where are we, four points off the top six or something? Please, please, please, let's not get back to goofball and instead remember what we said when McCarthy nearly took us down. SM is a rookie manager, not a stupid one. We knew there would be mistakes and a steep learning curve. He'll know it and he'll learn from it. Ten games with a new squad assembled on the cheap and already delivering better football. Yesterday we missed a penalty and had we converted it, who knows what the outcome would be. However, I know it wasn't SM that missed it. Patience and full throated support required, just like we said we would do last December. Bloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobirds
I tend to think that way too. The month of October after this international break will be a crucial period for the manager and the club. Mid table by the World Cup break and he should stay to see it out - if we're bottom 6 and struggling, time for Tan and the board to consider other options.
Clingo - they were a very poor side and we struggled against them on the pitch and on the touchline. I've seen no evidence that Morison has got this right yet. Also Hudson also leaves me cold about his ability to organise the defence. I keep saying it's early doors yet, but soon it won't be.
Well I guess we see it differently and it's good that we say so. For me, the evidence of getting it right hasn't always shown itself in final scores. But there have been some stellar half game performances and game plans only marred by an inability to finish. That's evidence to me but I respect that you see it differently. I'm not saying SM has got it all right all the time but I am saying that he's intelligent enough to learn from mistakes and take remedial action. Vive la difference (or something)
Just watching EFL highlights. Still to enjoy ours. Pundits reviewing the Millwall game commented on Afobe playing the whole game and scoring - again. They made the point that he should start every game as he is their only natural scorer. Therein lies our problem, which has dogged us before and after Kieffer Moore, we don't have one. Old ground I know. I'm not asking for a 20 goals a season striker but someone who, when in or around the penalty area can be relied upon to get on the ball and work the opposing keeper. Watters - no. Harris - no although has other good parts to his game. Etete - a bit early maybe - but so far no. Davies - no. Also brings other good aspects. Robinson - very early days, but never been a regular scorer. He adds a lot in other aspects but regrettably another no. Terrible penalty by the way. If we don't score we don't win. Somehow Morrison has to address this and soon.
Did not understand why he changed the team we missed Sparky Harris 1st half we need 2 in the middle If you use wing backs you non't need wingers/wide players. I think that Harris would have scored that pen. Enjoyed the day though and I quite like the stadium. Also a 2pint glass of beer/lager was only £8.50. I enjoyed a few of them.
Based on that decision and at face value, I'm not sure they're capable of reading anything. Perhaps plug is lined up
Proof of the pudding springs to mind. I share the same worries as Hilts about the way we were heading, it's just I don't share his belief of the inevitability of it.
Trouble is, his pudding will never be eaten now. I wish he'd never taken the job and continued to develop the youngsters. And I say that in sympathy for him, not the club. My overwhelming concerns about Cardiff City remain where they have been for many seasons -;at board level I wonder what has been or never was wil be next.
