http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/03/tottenham-scott-parker-harry-redknapp Harry Redknapp is closing in on the capture of Scott Parker from West Ham United and the deal is expected to be completed once the sale of Wilson Palacios is agreed. The Tottenham Hotspur manager may also welcome the 21-year-old Brazil striker Leandro Damião, although the deal is being driven by the chairman, Daniel Levy, with Redknapp thought to prefer a more experienced signing. Levy has offered £11m to Internacional for Damião, which has been rejected and the Brazilian club, with whom Tottenham have a commercial partnership and from where they signed the midfielder Sandro, intend to keep the player until the end of the year. The Brazilian championship ends in the first week of December. If Levy, though, were to raise the bid to nearer £18m, Internacional could be persuaded to sell this summer. Damião has also been linked to Arsenal, Barcelona, Roma and Benfica and Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is expected to watch him play for Brazil in the Copa America, which is scheduled for 1-24 July. Much will depend on how Damião performs in South America's major international tournament. Redknapp, who has completed the Bosman signing of Brad Friedel after the goalkeeper's contract expired at Aston Villa, has made no secret of his admiration for Parker. The 30-year-old, who is valued at £8m, will leave West Ham after their relegation from the Premier League and Redknapp heads the queue to sign him. The task will be made easier for Redknapp when he has sold Palacios, who is a target for Napoli. The £12m signing from Wigan Athletic has struggled for form. The midfielder Jermaine Jenas also faces an uncertain future at White Hart Lane. Redknapp is delighted with the signing of Friedel, describing the 40-year-old as a "fantastic professional" and he said the American's arrival should not spell the end for Heurelho Gomes. Tottenham's third-choice goalkeeper from this past season, Stipe Pletikosa, has returned to Spartak Moscow after the Russian club demanded a fee to make his loan move permanent, which Tottenham were not prepared to pay, and Redknapp said he needs three senior goalkeepers. Gomes, though, has only a year to run on his contract and has been linked with a move back to PSV Eindhoven. Tottenham last month gave the back-up goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini a new one-year contract. Redknapp wants to give the central defender Jonathan Woodgate a pay-as-you-play deal and he intends to discuss the matter with Levy. The chairman, though, is nervous about keeping Woodgate because of his well-documented injury problems.
I think Parker would be a great signing and a bargain at 8 million. Also heard that Gomes is staying and he is intent to fight for his place next season.
I think Damiao is a probably a done deal. We're just haggling over the price. Parker? Why?? He's a good player, but we have Sandro and Pienaar and for the reported £10mm being asked - No Thanks!. Woodgate? The only problem I can forsee there is giving a squad place to a guy who is never fit to play.
Damiao's price is only going to go up following the Copa America tournament (as long as he does well), so I think it is essential to secure him, either now or in December, as soon as possible. From reports and limited YouTube footage he sounds very handy. Scott Parker may be a very good signing indeed, especially if it is for £8m... It will give us a player with PL experience, plays very well in key games against big teams, is a natural leader and can provide additional cover for another one of our injury hit players: Tommy H. Regarding the question of Woodgate: I think it's time to cut the losses, accept in the limited number of appearances he has given us, he has been fantastic, but allow him to leave. It's a squad place we can use for a youngster / new striker/CB
I would say Pienaar out and Parker in. I'm beginning to feel more hopeful for next season now. I'm not sure why Pienaar is with us,can anybody seriously help. I mean I really am looking for guidance on this point. Thanks.
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...re-improved-12m-bid-for-internacional-striker I don't usually trust Goal.com but they have been spot on with this story, reported it weeks before anyone else
Totally agree Thor Pienaar has been crap since he arrived from Everton but at £2m you can't really complain. Parker would be a great signing for us as a squad player as looks like Harry is trying to get rid of some deadwood ie Jenas, Palacios. I know nothing about Damiao but hopefully he can be another gem like Modric and Sandro! But i do agree if we don't sign him before the Copa America hes value will go up if he performs well!
Let's go for him. If we can keep the backbone of the team together and get 2 or 3 new faces in who won't break the bank then it's gung ho for next season. This lad has a good record. I'm still tempted to keep RP and Crouchie. Friedel,Parker and this Brazilian sounds bloody good to me.
Right Van and agree about the deadwood. I love being called Thor. He would easily beat the Hulk and Superman. Spiderman wouldn't stand a chance and I don't care who anybody's favourite super hero is,Thor with his hammer would beat the lot of them. Go Avengers.
Wouldn't keep crouchie tbh but i know Harry is in love with him so may have to put up with him for at least another season. I think RP will stay i just hope he gets more of a chance next season i really think he could be a class striker if given a run in the team.
He won't have such a bad season again Van,of that I'm convinced. I too agree that RP should stay and play more. But Defoe well...! What do you think?
Not to sure about Defoe if we do sign this Brazilian guy i can't see Harry keeping Defoe, Pav and Crouchie. Out of the three i would rather Crouchie left but again i can't see that happening. I reckon Defoe will be looking for first team football and at Tottenham he will not be guaranteed first team football so may look for a club elsewhere i reckon a move to a top 10 club would do him a world of good where he is playing every week.
Why dont we give Peinarr a chance? Writing him off after half a season. Supposedly he didnt settle quickly, and we play different kind of football to Everton. When he was with them I always rated him, and with a big fixture list next season I think he will prove to be a very useful player. I cannot understand the mindset that would want to sell him at this stage.
Way over priced, and not a necessary signing. We're basically swapping palacious for Parker, so we're spending £8m on someone that's going to warm the bench. he has no place in our starting XI with Modric and Sandro in the middle
Why are people comparing Pienaar with Parker? One's a left winger that likes to cut inside and the other's a box-to-box central midfielder, who can also play the holding role. If we can offload Palacios, Jenas and O'Hara, then bringing in Parker would give us some very interesting options in the middle. Sandro and Modric would almost certainly be first choice, but we could also use Huddlestone, Parker or even van der Vaart there. Perhaps the move that's been mooted for Milan Badelj, the young Croatian playmaker, would round out the centre of the park? If the rumours about Pienaar not settling in London are true, then we could do worse than to move him on, sell the unhappy Kranjcar and use the money from their sale to bring in Marin from Bremen. I've heard this touted around before and I think that he'll be on the move this summer, one way or the other.
yeah mate thats what I wanted to see when I came on here today, Spurs in for yet another ****ing midfielder what the HELL is going on
It's the usual media bollocks, MH. I wouldn't give it too much thought, to be honest. Have a look on Spurs Community ITK, instead. I haven't, but I'm sure it's full of days old rumours, tarted up to sound like some random nobody has an inside link at the club!
I can feel your fustration mate and i agree with part of your rant BUT the way you got to think is if we are getting rid of Palacios then we are possibly getting in a much better footballer in Scott Parker so already we would of improved our team/squad just with that move. With the potential Palacios money we then buy parker with part of it. Don't get me wrong i'm desperate for a couple of top strikers and it's so annoying how it's not happening at the moment but clearly were after this Brazillian Leandro so hopefully something will come of this and hopefully this Drogba rumour is true .... Let's just be patient mate
