    TEAM NEWS

    • Tottenham's new loan signing Emmanuel Adebayor is ineligible to make his debut against his parent club Manchester City.
    • Luka Modric will be involved and virus victims, Kyle Walker and Jermaine Jenas, could also return to action.
    • Manchester City's new signing Samir Nasri is set to make his debut, leaving manager Roberto Mancini with a welcome selection headache.
    • He has a virtually fully fit squad to pick from with only Nigel de Jong out.

    MATCH PREVIEW, JONATHAN PEARCE:

The season may only be at the hors d'oeuvres stage. But this could be a veritable feast of football.

Some of City's play at Bolton was sumptuous. David Silva was beguiling. He ghosts away from markers, drifting in from wide positions to control so much of their tempo, and could be one of the stars of the season if he keeps up his current form. What a difference a few months have made to Edin Dzeko too; £27 million looked like a waste of money last season, but now he has scored five goals in five games.

City are looking for a sixth top-flight win on the spin for the first time since February 1978. This is the sort of game that will signpost their title credentials. Spurs have won 11 of the last 14 league encounters between the sides, so if City win even their most dubious fan may start to believe this could be their year.

Two seasons ago Tottenham pipped City for the last Champions League slot. Now Roberto Mancini's men are being talked about as genuine title challengers, with Spurs still stuck in the same slog for a top-four place.

Tottenham will be stung by that sort of comparison. Up until injuries exposed the squad's strength last season they played some great stuff.

Make no mistake, they can win this one. It'll be a real test of City's steel and resolve. I'll go for Tottenham to hit back and take the points, with a set-piece goal settling what should be a really tasty Sunday lunch-time banquet.

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

    • Tottenham have won 19 Premier League matches against Manchester City. Only Arsenal, with 20, have beaten City on more occasions.
    • Spurs have beaten City in 11 out of their last 14 matches in the league, but lost their last encounter 1-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium in May.
    • Eight of the last 13 Premier League matches between the sides have ended 2-1.
    • Want-away striker Carlos Tevez scored more league goals (21) last season than Tottenham strikers Jermain Defoe (4), Peter Crouch (4), Roman Pavlyuchenko (9) and Robbie Keane (0) combined.

    Tottenham

    • Spurs lost just one league match at home last season, a record bettered by only Manchester United. However, they drew nine games at White Hart Lane, which was the highest tally in the league.
    • Spurs won just three of their final 12 league games last season.
    • They have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine top-flight matches.
    • They scored 15 goals from outside the box last season, four more than any other side.
    • On Monday, Brad Friedel recorded his 267th consecutive Premier League appearance. He last missed a game in May 2004.
    • According to Opta stats, since 2008-09 Spurs have won 43% of their league games when want-away midfielder Luka Modric has been playing, versus 52% without him.

    Manchester City

    • City have won seven of their last eight league matches.
    • They have gone 18 league and cup games without a draw (excludes Community Shield).
    • Joe Hart kept 18 clean sheets last season, the highest tally in the division.
    • They have won five games in a row for only the second time in the Premier League.
    • Manchester City have conceded at least two goals in six of their last eight Premier League away games.

That stat about Tevez outscoring all our strikers is embarrassing.

Gonna be a very tough game though.

Well its the same Tevez who has said all along he misses his family and wants to move to a club nearer them or where they would like to live, as no one could afford him this season his family have a agreed to move here, problem solved.

And yet another cross board match day thread turns into pointless discussion about players wages and ambition. :emoticon-0114-dull:

    Thanks.

It must be a annoying for the people who spend a lot of time putting the OP together only to see there threads derailed by WUM's, at the moment only the moderator of the forum the thread it is started in or Syd the super mod and Mick the owner can delete these WUM posts but they are working on a way that allows all mods of the teams in the thread can delete them, so this will be sorted soon.

Are we good enough to come back from behind? I somehow doubt it at the moment.

they have to be very careful with the bookings. If bale'd actually run at zabaleta at some point, that'll be 1 down.

2 booking in the centre of the park aswell. the game could change if they get a man sent off.

otherwise, i doubt it. they are just too good going forwards and we look lost in the final 3rd.

The commentary kept saying they would repeat that handball incident just before their goal and never did. I missed it was it a handball?
