    Sunday 20th September 12pm
    Premier League
    St. Mary's Stadium

Two games, two poor performances and one narrowly nicked result. Not the ideal start to the season.
With all the hype around the return of Gareth Bale it seems oddly appropriate that we visit his other former club.
Saints have also had a poor opening week, losing to Palace in the league and Brentford in the League Cup.
They picked a strong side for their midweek game, so they'll be looking for a reaction this weekend.
Can Mourinho get the team to turn up or will Hassenhuttl get his side off the mark?

Southampton's last campaign was largely split between an awful first half and an impressive second one.
Having lost 10 of the first 17 games it looked likely that they were going to be fighting a relegation battle.
Their 9-0 home loss to Leicester was a particular low point and they also lost the following two games.
They won a lot of matches and didn't draw many post-Christmas though, ending up in 11th place.
They ended the season with a run of 7 games unbeaten too, winning 4 and drawing 3.

Optimism was high for this season and their troubled start probably hasn't dented that too badly.
A quiet transfer window has seen little movement either in or out.
The Hojbjerg/Walker-Peters switch and Salisu joining from Valladolid are the only noteworthy moves.
Danny Ings staying and remaining fit could be key to how the whole season turns out.
His scored 22 of their 51 league goals last time and he'll be looking to cement an England spot this year.

Our visit to St. Mary's last season was a stuttering, ragged one that was most notable for injuries.
Danny Ings gave the hosts the lead early on before Ndombele had to be removed from proceedings.
A disjointed side didn't create much and the home side defended their lead fairly comfortably.
Harry Kane pulled up with an injury that saw him miss a key part of the season too, adding to our misery:

The home match was early in the campaign and was typical of our performances in that period.
Ndombele scored the opener, but Aurier swiftly picked up two quick yellows and was sent off.
A Lloris howler allowed Ings to equalise before a wonderful team move saw Kane restore our lead.
The ten men held firm after that and the conditions seemed to spur the side to raise their game.
We limited them to a couple of sniffs, somewhat surprisingly, holding on to take the points:

Tanganga is our only confirmed absence, though Aurier missed the Plovdiv game with a knock.
Redmond misses out for Southampton, while Armstrong and Salisu are doubts.
    Neither side has any suspensions.

Lineups for each side's last league game:

Spurs: Lloris; Doherty, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies; Winks, Hojbjerg; Moura, Alli, Son; Kane.
Subs: Hart, Aurier, Sanchez, Sissoko, Ndombele, Lamela, Bergwijn.

Southampton: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Stephens, Bednarek, Bertrand; Smallbone, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Redmond; Ings, Adams.
Subs: Forster, Vestergaard, Vokins, Tella, Djenepo, Obafemi, Long.

Ref: David Coote. VAR: Keith Stroud.

    TV: BT Sport 3.

How would you like to line up for this one and what would you change from the Plovdiv game?
Would you stick with much of the same lineup, make a few changes or go for a wholesale switch?
Which system and tactics would you use and what are you expecting Southampton to go with?

The weird thing about this match is both we and Southampton hit good runs of form post-restart, which you'd expect to carry over to the new season - but so far that simply hasn't happened, with us losing to Everton and scraping past Plovdiv while they lost to both Palace and Brentford

Nothing says “spursy” more than Spurs signing former Saints player Gareth Bale for the second time, 24 hours prior to playing his old club by where he is an absentee, and former Spurs RB Kyle Walker Peters scoring a hatrick of assists in a 3-0 defeat.

Just getting my RCL out there now. <laugh> <whistle>

Yeah it’s guaranteed KWP is gonna go prime Cafu for this game, wouldn’t expect anything less.

Hopefully Bale’s arrival will have given all our wide players a kick up the arse. Need more productivity from them - Son included.

    I’d like to see:

    Hugo
    Doherty, Sanchez, Toby, Sess
    Gio, Hojbjerg, Tanguy
    Bergwijn, Kane, Son

Expecting Dier, Davies, Winks and Lucas to be in the XI though.

Tanguy starts! Sanchez stays in over Toby too. Dele not even in the squad.

I guess Jose's moved on from bullying Tanguy to Dele then.

In all seriousness, I reckon it's probably an injury or he was late to training or something. Daft to have him starting one week and then trying to shift him the next. Plus who would pay decent money for him?

Nevermind, apparently it's because Jose's upset that he has too many players :emoticon-0108-speec

1-0. Kane. Nothing move and he's nicked that.
Edit: Nope. VAR chalked it off. <doh>

Romeu in the book for a poor lunge on Hojbjerg. Nasty one.
