please log in to view this image Saturday 9th March 3pm Premier League St Mary's Stadium A surprise clean sheet and some valiant defending saw us ease past Dortmund in the Champions League. The much needed win was a bonus, as progress to the next round was first and foremost. Now we're back to another away game against a struggling side in the league. The last one of these didn't go well and we're now in real need of all three points. Can we restore some of our form and release a bit of pressure or will the relegation battlers do the same? Our hosts started the season really poorly under Mark Hughes, only picking up a solitary win in months. The Welshman was dispatched after 14 matches, following a draw with Man Utd. His old side fought back to earn a point after going two goals down and enough was enough. He was swiftly replaced by Austrian Ralph Hasenhuttl, formerly of RB Leipzig. His first task as their coach was to watch their trip to Wembley from the stands. I doubt he was too impressed with their performance, as caretaker Kelvin Davies took the reins. His debut came at Cardiff and it wasn't great either, as they lost to a solitary goal. Back-to-back wins against Arsenal and Huddersfield raised hopes, but they haven't won many since. Leicester, Everton and Fulham are his only other conquests, but 5 wins in 14 isn't too bad. The previously mentioned match at Wembley looked like a comfortable win on paper. Some lackadaisical defending made it far from that, unfortunately. Kane's early goal should have set the tone, but only some heroics from Lloris kept us ahead at the break. Two quick strikes after the restart threatened to kill the tie, as Moura and Son made it 3-0. That seemed to send our defence to sleep though, as we gave up lots of chances before finally conceding: The game at St Mary's in the last campaign saw us create plenty of chances but fail to make them count. We faced Mauricio Pellegrino's team in January and neither side was in great form. An early Davinson Sanchez own goal gave them the lead, but it lasted barely a couple of minutes. Kane leveled things up and we had plenty of opportunities to take all three points, but rarely tested the keeper. Southampton had a couple of decent chances themselves, but it finished 1-1: Trippier misses this game and Winks will be assessed, but Alli returns from his injury. Ings and Obafemi are out for Southampton. The former won't be risked due to his previous issues. No players are suspended, but Pochettino serves the first match of his sideline ban against his former club. Lineups for each side's last league game: Spurs: Lloris; Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Trippier, Wanyama, Sissoko, Rose; Eriksen; Kane, Son. Subs: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Davies, Skipp, Lamela, Moura, Llorente. League form: WWWLLD. Southampton: Gunn; Bednarek, Yoshida, Vestergaard; Valery, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Bertrand; Redmond, Austin. Subs: McCarthy, Stephens, Targett, Slattery, Armstrong, Elyounoussi, Gallagher. League form: DDLLWL. Referee: Kevin Friend. TV: Not televised. How should we set up for this one, given our midweek performance and efforts? Three or four at the back and one or two up front? Who needs to be rotated and who deserves to be dropped or promoted from the bench?
Sell kane and shoot Dele in the bollocks for being useless. He ain't done nothing since we beat Fulham in January FFS
Delighted to hear Trippier is out. Absolute liability this season. Being worse than Serge Aurier must be terrifying for a professional footballer. Doubt Alli will start and Winks is clearly struggling with fitness having played so many games this season. I'd like: Hugo Aurier/KWP Toby Dave Jan Rose Dier Sissoko Son Eriksen Kane Subs Gazza Foyth Wanyama Davies Alli Lucas Llorente
Maybe this is a chance for KWP to get a start, poch likes to rotate the full backs and if Tripps is out it might happen. Agree on dele ease him back into it as a second half substitute. COYS
With Arsenal playing Utd this is a good chance for us to pull away a bit. Win for us by two goals to get us on the way again.
A draw for the goons would be perfect for us but we need a win .This time of the season is usually where there are a few shock results just hope ours isn't one of them
Hugo KWP, Toby, Jan, Rose Dier, Sissoko Lucas, Eriksen, Son Kane Dier ain’t 100% so might mean Wanyama starts ( )and I reckon Lucas won’t either because I think he ****ed Poch’s missus.
I like the look of that side, and I think Dier will start, hopefully get an hour out of him then give Wanyama (or Skipp) 30 mins at the end with us in front. Agree that Lucas is unlikely to start though and I think Poch will pick Alli, and again look to get an hour or so out of him before bringing on Llorente to replace him.
I’d rather start Dele from the bench but as we’ve seen with Kane, Poch doesn’t seem to believe in easing players in lol. As for Lucas, beginning to wonder if he has a future here. Was in great form at the start of the season but seems to have been dropped to fifth choice now, didn’t even come on against Arsenal and Dortmund. He left PSG because he got zero game time, can’t imagine he’s too overjoyed with his current predicament.
Well at least he knows tis because he is not impressing the boss with his training/on pitch efforts, rather than to please some divas signed by a Sugga Daddy FC and/or the club sponsors.
