please log in to view this image Sunday 10th January 5pm FA Cup 3rd Round Rossett Park Fresh from reaching Wembley in one domestic cup, it's time to start the campaign for the other one. Off to Merseyside to face one of the less familiar faces in English football. Marine are an old club with a largely amateur history, looking to cause the biggest upset in recent memory. They currently play in the 8th tier of our pyramid and their league is suspended. Can Mourinho avoid a most embarrassing banana skin or will Neil Young make him look like an old man? I'd normally write something about our opponents here, but I really have no idea what to put, honestly. I'll freely admit that I'd never heard of them before the draw and there's not a lot out there, either. Here's a BBC article that I suspect contains at least a few bits of fantasy that somebody put out there: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55412755 Our hosts entered the FA Cup in the Preliminary Round this season, back on September 12th. They won a narrow 2-1 victory over Barnoldwick Town, which put them into the First Qualifying Round. They beat Frickley Athletic (0-1), Runcorn Linnets (1-1p), Nantwich Town (4-1) and Chester (1-0) to reach the first round. Colchester United and Havant & Waterlooville were dispatched to get to this point and both were a struggle. The former required penalties, while the latter conceded in extra-time: Lo Celso, Bale and Lamela are out of this one, I'd expect. No injury news for Marine. Lineup for our last league game and Marine's cup match: Spurs: Lloris; Doherty, Dier, Alderweireld, Davies; Hojbjerg, Winks; Bergwijn, Ndombele, Son; Kane. Subs: Hart, Tanganga, Rodon, Reguilon, Fernandes, Sissoko, Alli, Moura, Vinicius. League form: WDLLDW. Marine: Passant; Davies, Raven, Miley, Joyce; Hmami, Doyle, Barrigan; Kengni, Cummins, Touray. Subs: Germano, Hughes, Strickland, Devine, Wignall, Howard, Shaw. Ref: Michael ****ing Oliver. TV: BBC 1. How would you like to line up for this one and what would you change from the Brentford game? Would you stick with much of the same lineup, make a few changes or go for a wholesale switch? Which system and tactics would you use and what are you expecting Marine to go with?
No rona issues and Bale has apparently asked Jose to be involved having returned to training today, whereas White and Clarke are confirmed to be travelling as well as someone from the U18s (guessing it’s Scarlett, though possibly Devine). I imagine it’s going to be a rotated XI which should still in theory be too strong for Marine, even if we do know all about the magic of the cup. Hart Tanganga, Sanchez, Rodon, Davies Winks, White Clarke, Dele, Bergwijn Vinicius I also hope that Kane, Son and Hojbjerg aren’t even in the squad. Give them a proper rest.
You can thank Corona-chan for Kane and Son not being on the pitch. If the fixture allowed spectators to attend, I suspect that Kane and Son would have done a sub appearance just as Kane did at Tranmere not so long ago.
All a misunderstanding... Bale heard Jose say they were going to marine. He just wanted a few days by the seaside!
Yeah that was ridiculous though, I’d like to think Jose wouldn’t do that. Was livid when Poch brought him on against Tranmere.
I was angry due to the risk, but thought better of it once we learned the rationale. Some of the "shoe size" IQ Twatter denizen responses were funny though.
I must say I think Marine have shown themselves to be classy in the build up to Sunday. All the noises coming out of the club have been respectful and civilised. I was more than happy to give them £20 and buy a couple of virtual tickets. I hope they enjoy their day in the limelight.
Is there any reason why you're using Japanese honorifics to describe a strain of Covid that originated in Kent?
A new club record , 6400 tickets sold but nobody in attendance.............Arse have been doing that for years though
