Cardiff spent one more season in the Southern League before joining the Football League Division Two in 1920-21, when they finished as runners-up and won promotion to Division One. The first meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at Ninian Park in August 1921 resulted in a 1-0 win for Spurs with Jimmy Banks scoring the winner. This will be a tough battle, as Cardiff close down quickly and press so these sort of games are where we can see how Eriksen copes with getting closed down. Hopefully Lennon starts as I prefer his overall ability compared to Townsend Caulker MOTM?
Don't think so,he still switches off at key moments, once he get's that outof his game,he should be an England regular
We MUST take them seriously as they beat City but I'm going for 0-2, I'm betting on our stingy defence to continue and Solly to score.
I think Spurs are fortunate that Fraizer Campbell had his one good game for the season v City. That team performance was totally at odds with the crabby, defensive games they have had before and since. I can see Spurs winning 1-0, but 0-0 wouldn't be a surprise.
Cardiff away won't be easy, City learned that the hard way and we'd be stupid going there thinking just because they've come up it should be a walkover. Malky Mackay is a top manager and he'll get Cardiff in the best possible shape to take us on. Team I'd like: Lloris, Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose Sandro, Paulinho Lamela, Eriksen, Sigurdsson Soldado Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Dembele, Chadli (assuming he missed NCFC with just a knock?), Townsend, Defoe Gylfi deserves to start after his brace against Norwich, would be unfair to drop him in my opinion. If we can replicate the Norwich performance then I don't see why we couldn't get a win, won't be easy by any means but we should have the quality to be able to go there and come away with 3 points. I'll go for 2-1. Soldado and Paulinho. COYS!
both Caulker and Campbell will be up for this big time...the crowd will be very hostile so it will be a real test. we will need to earn the right to play well ... too often in the past we have failed in these types of matches against newly promoted clubs...I remember losing to Stoke (on more than one occassion), Hull, Reading, wigan ... all newly promted at the time. Think this will be a tough match which will show how well our team is developing...or not! I'd take a draw tbh
Not if his defending in the Hull game is anything to go by. Our boys know him and his game well enough to catch him out. He'll be up for it of course, but that can go against you aswell, there's a fine line between being up for it and and a rush of blood....and he might have a blinder!...quite nice here on this fence.
Interesting point, Notso. We know Caulker well, but he won't know a lot of our players, as they either spent little time with him or signed after he left. Might be to our advantage, but he'll be desperate to make a point against us, so it could go either way.
We are looking very very good atm and this is early days. Not just winning but dominating, the media will need to catch up with the real situation and look beyond the smugness at Arsenal and the assumptions of Chelsea, City and United.
i would rather they kept underestimating us, if thats what they're doing. Better to be under the radar as long as possible
