please log in to view this image Saturday 22nd September 5.30pm Premier League Amex Stadium Our Champions League campaign opener didn't go as planned and resulted in our third consecutive loss. That's our worst run since Pochettino joined the club in 2014 and it's something of a crisis. Someone that would normally want that to end will be looking to take advantage of it, instead. Chris Hughton's side are also in need of a win and won't be in a generous mood. The Seagulls came up, stayed up and are now looking to avoid the dreaded 2nd Season Syndrome. An opening day loss at Vicarage Road may have rattled a few nerves, but their first home game settled them. Beating Man Utd and scoring three goals may not be as rare as it used to be, but it was still a big victory. They also beat them at home last season though, so it's becoming a bit routine. Their form since hasn't been as impressive, but they haven't played badly. A narrow loss at Anfield to a solitary Salah goal is fairly respectable and the followed it up with two 2-2 draws. Rescuing a point from 2-0 down demonstrates resilience and doing it twice shows mental strength. Conceding in every game so far will worry them though and they'll have had a week to work on it. This fixture was a fairly strange one in the last campaign, for a variety of reasons. The FA Cup semi-final was up next and we made changes for it and looked distracted for much of the match. The hosts were well organised and hard working and we huffed and puffed to half-time with no success. Harry Kane broke the deadlock just after it and we barely had time to celebrate before they were back level. An Aurier challenge resulted in a penalty, which Pascal Gross put away, ending the scoring at 1-1. The match at Wembley was similarly patchy, as we largely dominated but struggled to break them down. Half-chances came and went early on and half-time loomed as Aurier's cross sailed into their net to make it 1-0. The floodgates failed to open in the second half, as they kept things tight and stayed in the match til late. An unorthodox Son header from an Eriksen free-kick killed it with a few minutes remaining. No injury news as yet, but it seems likely that Hugo Lloris will still be absent for this one. Neither side has any suspensions. Lineups for each side's last league game: Spurs: Vorm; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dembele, Dier, Winks, Eriksen; Kane, Moura. Subs: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Sanchez, Davies, Wanyama, Lamela, Son. Brighton: Ryan; Montoya, Duffy, Dunk, Bong; Stephens; Knockaert, Propper, Bissouma, March; Murray. Subs: Button, Bruno, Balogun, da Silva, Kayal, Locadia, Jahanbakhsh. Referee: Chris Kavanagh. Moved into the Premier League last season, but this will be his first Spurs game. TV: BT Sport 1. You'd expect those that didn't travel to Italy to come back in for this, but would you change anything else? How should we line up and who should be left out for those returning to the side? Does anyone deserve to be dropped from the 18 or rested and who would you promote in their place?
I can't see it, to be honest. I think that he'll start against Watford in the League Cup and his performance there could be important.
I agree, I would put him on Saturday but I don't think Poch will Gazza, Trippier, Alderwiereld, Sanchez, Rose, Wanyama, Dembele, Lamela, Eriksen, Moura, Son would be my team, but I fully expect that Vorm, Vertonghen, Dier and Kane will start
Can't see us solving our defensive set piece woes in 3 days and the anticipated barrage will likely find us wanting again. (Not that Brighton won't offer other threats as well) There have been too many poor performances and insufficient cover to allow for the number of replacements that would accurately reflect the deficiencies in recent weeks, so I don't expect wholesale changes. Toby and Tripps to return and maybe Vic if fit. Would like to see Gazza get a game - imposing size will help nullify some of the Brighton threat. Only Lucas and Coco come close to deserving a start. Will be an interesting tactical battle between Chrissy and Poch. My money is on the former maybe getting the upper hand right now! A game we should - and arguably must - win. Would happily settle for a draw and a better performance, to be honest..... COYS!!
Not quite but you may have a point, the stadium is at Falmer about half way between Lewes and Brighton. When I was young there used to be three train an hour, I bet that has reduced since. The stadium is built in a hollow in the downland so as to not be too imposing on the local landscape. It is a bit of a tardis, it looks bigger from the inside. Brighton tend to do a lot better at home than away.
I like Vorm but his big weakness is commanding his box at set pieces and ultimately we have lost the last 3 games because of this do if it were me I would start Gazzaniga. Am concerned about Davies as he has looked out of sorts this season ... would not start Rose as I thought he was shocking v Liverpool but Davies was not great in mid week but hopefully he will play himself into form. Would start Wanyama ahead of Dier. And would start Kane on the bench...he looks in serious need of a rest but we might need him in the final half hour. My team would be Gazzaniga Trippier Vertongen Toby Davies Wanyama Moura Dele Eriksen lamela Son Subs Vorm KWP Aurier Sissoko Kane Rose Diner Sanchez
Odd they didn't mention Foyth's back in training too I guess he won't be starting in the Season Killer Cup...
