Stoke go 1-0 down against Liverpool from a penalty and get a man booked for a relatively innocuous tackle. Had Webb been the ref in our game, then they'd have finished with about 2 men. Skrtel then falls over allowing Walters to equalise and they go ahead from their 3rd corner. We had 16 today and never looked like scoring from one.

Super pass from naughton for defoes goal and not much to say about Bale, other then complete class! great to see him make headlines for the right reasons!
Great win today. But... can someone please have a word with AVB about his choice of winter wear! His clearly visible black t-shirt under his shirt, plus the loosely tightened tie makes him look like a rebellious secondary school pupil refusing to wear school uniform correctly. I know he's young but sort it out!
Good scoreline but it was Defoe who should've had the hattrick yesterday. Definitely should've put away the chance he was given in the first half and spooned over another great chance in the second but at least he was getting in the right areas, it's more an observation than a criticism that he should've had more. Frankly Bale had me livid when he tried to round the 'keeper instead of squaring it to Ade, although that quickly changed to a cheer when he scored. Still definitely should've passed it for me. Good win overall but against a team that have been very poor in their last 2, so it'll count for little if we don't win against Sunderland.
Hey YV... don't you realise 'tis the season to be jolly! Trouble is you'll find that if you keep postponing the opportunity to be happy with a result you'll end up holding off to the next poor performance, thus creating a self-fulfilling prophecy!
I was very happy when we won This morning I'm finding it hard to shake the feeling that the performance from the side we played was League One level and I wouldn't go over the top celebrating a 4-0 win against Stevenage. If we beat Sunderland I'll stay happy
Not bad, but not great, that is all. Any hyperbole over the result is outweighed by the poor team on the day we played, further analysis seems futile as we are not a side that breaks teams down at will. The Villa defence was shocking...for the 2nd game running.
Villa were utter ****e against both us and Chelsea, but they were on a good little run prior to that. Drew 0-0 with the Goons, beat Reading, drew away at QPR, drew with Stoke, battered Norwich and won at Anfield. They'd only conceded 8 in 8 games at home before yesterday, 3 of which came from Man Utd and a further 3 from Everton. Ok, it's not worth having a parade over and they offered very little in the way of a goal threat, but it's a very respectable result. They may find it hard to recover from two hammerings on the trot, though.
You can only beat the team that turns up. 3 points against Villa count exactly the same as 3 points against Man U. I can't agree with this level of negativity!
I was quite annoyed at HT as we'd been so so dominant and, in typical fashion, hadn't converted chances to goals. All said and done though - a big win, a cleansheet and an overall decent performance is just what I ordered The only areas I could pick up on would be: Set pieces - standard. We all know about this - a team shouldn't have nearly 20 corners and not score from any of them. Cutting edge - I think a 6-0 win would've been a fair scoreline. We missed a few good chances in the first half that would've made things easier.
Will muppet Holte Legends show his face on here now, after we battered Villa both home and away in the league this season? He bored us day after day on old 606 forum with his "stats" , we can bore him now with how Villa haven't beaten us in the league since 2008, what a waste of space he is.
so basically unless we destroyed them until they were on their knees and that done in perfection...you wont be satisfied? adapted to the team we had to face and 4 nil was about right...id have been slightly more disgruntled had we scraped through.
