Surprised Clattenburg gave a yellow card there. He really is a **** referee.

We may as well take Bale off and stick Townsend or Siggy on. We don't want to get any injuries which could be avoided.

3-0. Nice move and Villa's defence is all over the place, which allows Lennon to put in a completely unmarked Gareth Bale. Too easy.

Funny thing is when teams play football against us I fancy is to come out on top. May have been better for Villa if they had continued their first half tactics.

"Is there a fire drill?" rings out from our away fans.
Understandably unhappy Villa fans head for the exits.

Exactly. 5 at the back for the first 40-odd minutes and they didn't concede. Went to 4 and shipped goals.

    Sigurdsson coming on.

Villa get a free-kick for... sympathy? Please go away, Mr Clattenburg.

Superb ball from Walker for Sigurdsson who plays a lovely short pass to Bale, who puts away the hat-trick. Nicely done. Walkover.
The Welshman's then replaced by Townsend.

Villa are appalling. They have injuries but even so. How the hell did they beat Liverpool at Anfield?!

In our past 3 games our opposition have mustered about one shot on target per game.
Shame our solidity appears to have been created via a sacrifice in the creativity department, but hopefully we'll do something about that soon.

Brilliant performance today. A frustrating first half, but our patience paid off.

Aston villa are ****ing ****e. 4 flattered them. We could have scored as many as Chelsea.

    Happy Boxing Day!

Excellent performance, we were well on top of them in the first and then when they came into the game a bit more in the second half the game opened up and we finished them good and proper.

It does highlight my concern from the Stoke game though - we struggle to break down teams who pack the defensive third and allow us to be on top. When teams come at us like Villa did in the second half then space opens up and we can show our quality but (apart from the Swansea game in flashes) we seem to be struggling when we dominate possession and territory too much, if thats possible. We have plenty of battering rams (players who thrive best when they can use their pace and power) in Lennon, Bale and Dembele but we lack a rapier, which is what we had in Modric. Someone to apply that delicate touch and pick holes in packed, organised defences. Of course the likes of Bale etc. are incredibly technically gifted as well but I think you can all see where I'm coming from.

Anyway I don't want to cast too much of a downer on today's result. Well played the boys and onwards and upwards.
