And inspired by my mate who lives in Portsmouth. He was going to pub to watch England last night and his dilemma was if lambert scores does he jump up and down cheering bearing in mind he plays for pompeys rivals and would he get lynched. So are club rivalries put to one side for the national team? Thoughts and observations please. <confused>

    Yeah, most definitely...

If, (a couple of years ago), Grant Holt had got the call up and scored the winner in an important England match I'd have celebrated it as much as if any England player had scored it.

Once they don the shirt of England all club rivalries are forgotten, as far as I'm concerned. <ok>

I agree with you welly, and appears to be the same with players from bitter rivals! <ok>

Maybe it's a tougher call for Portsmouth at the moment, if you forget a blip when Portsmouth bankrupted themselves to buy a team of internationals then Southampton have had the upper hand as far as talent goes for half a century, so maybe they're jealous...

I didn't really think Holt was anywhere close to England material, but I don't think that was bias. John Ruddy is at least the second best keeper in England at the moment.

Norwich fans have always been big enough to salute Sir Bobby so now it might be our turn to get behind some of their men.

I would support anyone who pulls on the national shirt no matter what club they come from. Although having said that I did have a little smile to myself when Rob Green feel over while trying to do a goal kick for England a few years back...

I think I've mellowed on the Norwich thing anyway. They're not really our rivals at the moment, are they? We are closer to Posh and Col U than Norwich.

No, I don't like them, I'm just not arsed with it. Watching MOTD and listening for the results these days I don't really care if they win, lose or draw.

Can you imagine the conversation... bearing in mind I'm in Yorkshire.

Doc: "What seems to be the problem?"
Me: "Well Doctor: Lately if I'm watching Match Of The Day, I don't really bat an eyelid at the Norwich game."
Doc: "Oh I see, that's serious."
Me: "I know, I don't seem to really mind whether they win, lose or draw."
Doc: "I think we're going to have to refer you to a specialist."

Well most England fans thought it was ok to cheer on a Swede then an Italian whilst pretending it was still England....so i'm sure club football can be overlooked.
