Read this before viewing the film This is absolutely incredible footage if you have a few minutes. Yu Muroga was doing his job making deliveries when the 11 March 2011 earthquake hit in Japan. Unaware, like many people in the area, of how far inland the Tsunami would travel, he continued to. The HD camera mounted on his dashboard captured not only the earthquake, but also the moment he and several other drivers were suddenly engulfed in the Tsunami. He escaped from the vehicle seconds before it was crushed by other debris and sunk underwater. His car and the camera have only recently been recovered by the police. The camera was heavily damaged but a video expert was able to retrieve this footage. http://www.flixxy.com/japanese-tsunami-viewed-from-a-car.htm
Puts it into a bit of perspective about moaning about the footy mate, wonder if the person on top of the car got away ok?
Syd I've just watched it at work with the lass who shares my office and we have both just said how eerie it was and very scary. I just cant imagine what would go through your mind in those circumstances and the pace with which the thing happened didnt leave any chance to think really. Nature is both a wonderous beauty and a perilous danger in equal measure. Fascinating post Bill. Off topic maybe but enthralling all the same.
Excellent thread Bill & thanks for sharing it with us Always expect the unexpected by mother nature at anytime..
that guy at 1 minute.. runs away from a tsunami........ then forgets he didnt shut his car door... sign off the times eh. not quite the same level but i remember the severe flooding few year back, i got stuck out in the countryside next to a lake that had overflowed. having to wade waist deep water dodging sewer turds.. some guy in a mini tried to drive through where the road was.. idiot. needless to say his car just floated into a field. in the end found a pub on high ground and held out in there with free chips.. tight fisted bastards didn't offer up a free pint though... after all the trauma.. shocking
We've got severe flooding, reports of over 300 dead countrywide.. Now Crocodiles reported escaped from a temple, reward offered (sod that) Still nowt like a Tsunami though, although the one in 2004 did a canny bit.
Didn't whet my appetite, not one bit, it seems crazy how people can live in such hazardous areas knowing the potential for such large scale destruction could happen at any given moment.
A scary piece of film but I too laughed at that bit! I am still amazed the guy in the van with the camera survived.
